Welcome gustav89! This is the place to be for as much information as possible as it relates to BIAB. Make sure you take a good look around and think hard about the size of batches you want to start with, and the size of batches you may want to do in the future before you order your equipment. This will help you to get equipment that can grow with you, rather than buying it twice. Happy Future Brewing!

Hi All,

I'm a new beer brewer, having recently brewed my first batch from a kit using extracts. I split the base batch (a stout) into 4 carboys and added different flavorings to each, and was surprised how well it turned out! It was a lot of fun, and now I want to take the plunge and step into all grain. I like the idea of getting creative and making different kinds of beers that you can't find at the store.

I heard of BIAB on Basic Brewing Radio, and it seems like a great way to make all-grain batches with relatively basic equipment. I'm planning to start off with the all-grain BIAB stout recipe they shared on their program and compare it to the stout I made from the kit. Looking forward to experimenting a bit and having fun with a new hobby!

Hello!

My name is Dan, I'm from London, UK. I found this website via numerous recommendations on the Jim's Beer Kit forum. I am currently brewing kits (5 gallon batches). I am interested in BIAB as I'd like to (a) brew smaller volume, more frequently and (b) move towards all-grain. BIAB appears to satisfy both interests and this forum appears to be the website best placed to educate me accordingly.

I look forward to spending some time around these parts and earning my all-grain stripes!

Dan.

Hey Dan and welcome aboard. I would agree that BIAB checks all the boxes, including not only moving toward all-grain but arriving there, since BIAB is pure all-grain brewing(in one vessel). Have a look around, grab the biabacus and get brewing some awesome beer!

Thank you for the welcome! Unfortunately my excitement at starting BIAB has been set back by the reality presented to me by BIABacus - At least, thanks to the kind people who have contributed to this wonderful tool, I know now before having invested in an unsuitable set-up... Please do feel free to dissect my problem further here:

Greetings from Lake Elsinore, California. My name is Robertz making my first post. I will be ready for my first BIAB brew once I build my fermentation chamber. Maybe by the end of May. I plan to use a mini frig in an insulated cabinet with room for 3 fermenters. Until then I will try the Biabacus to prepare my fist batch and ask questions.

Welcome robertz64!
Looks like you are on the right path already. Post up your first recipe before buying your ingredients and we can make sure your first Biab gets going well.

Hi All

Live in UK - on south coast England. Last brewed three years ago. One child and one house move latter have decided to restart, moving to all grain. Bought a 50l pot that will work on induction, debated (briefly) what would happen if caught boring a hole in our plastic freezer box and while researching best shape/size for a future-proof mash tun picked up on BIAB. I bought a bag as 'stop gap' as thought would get me going. Listened to a Pat Hollingdale podcast which linked here. Am completely bowled over by the amount of information and help to those new to BIAB (as well as debate by experts). What a great site - forget 'stop gap’ - this could very well be all I ever need! Thanks all and really look forward to getting involved - lot to pick up on...

Andrew

Welcome Seti, indeed there is a lot to pick up on here but you don't need to pick it all up right away of course. Once you have the basics down brew a batch or 2, experience is a valuable learning tool. Give the BIABacus a try as well, it makes the brewday very predictable and convenient for record keeping. Taking notes and recording the numbers from your brews is also extremely valuable. Happy Brewing!

Hello! joining to further my BIAB methods and make some great beer. Time to step everything up a notch, I've brewed 1 extract batch, 1 partial mash via biab and a 1 gallon all grain biab - next step is 5 gallon all grain BIAB.

Inflames and Shek, welcome to the forum! Lots of good help available on this forum... It has been awesome for me.

Both of you have done small batches. I haven't done small batches. Just seemed that it would take almost as much work as doing a larger batch. But for those without much room or space, or who don't drink as much, it would be a fun way to play. And I think it would be nice way to test multiple versions of a brew...seems like. The BIABacus software you can use from this site allows you to scale to any size batch.

Again, welcome to the forum! And if you have questions, feel free to ask.

Welcome aboard HammockDistrict! Moving to all grain with BIAB is a great way to get more flavour from and more control over your brews. As far as kids, do what I do, put em to work! My kids like to help mill grain, although they also eat it when they think Im not looking hah, can't leave them unattended with it or my mash efficiency suffers. Anyway, this is a great place for all the info you may need and answers to any questions you have. Happy Brewing!

Hello from Colorado!

New to brewing - have about 5 extract batches under my belt, but will be trying BIAB this weekend. I was doing some on-line research and came across this site and it looks like a wealth of info.

I'm looking forward to learning all I can and hopefully get to a point where I can actually contribute some, too!

Greetings!

I'm an eternal student of home brewing with 13 batches on my belt. I started two years ago, and since then, I've gone from extract to AG, chilling to no-chilling, and bottling to kegging. I still sparge for efficiency. In the future, I hope to learn yeast culture.

Welcome SubjectB!

Great forum, and lots of good people to learn from. Where are you from?

I've made lots of progressions myself. Remarkable the difference between extract and AG for being able to dial in what you want... Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Hello from Yorkshire, England.

I've been brewing from kits for the last 2 years with great results. I'm now looking to expand my skills and brew my own recipes, which is why BIAB really interests me. I've bought a 50L pot and a gas burner, and I plan to brew in my garage. My wife has kindly agreed to make a bag for me, so I should be ready for my first BIAB batch in the next week or two.

Thanks for the fantastic website.
