Hello All,

Simon here from London.

Just getting into brewing, done a couple of kits and decided all grain was the way to go. Started with BIAB more by accident as I sort of made up my 'own' way of doing things. But as almost nothing we do is original I discovered others are doing the same and with a wealth of knowledge behind them.

I'm a pastry chef by trade and looking forward to using some skills in that area to work with brewing.

Ok, I'm off to try find out how to do all this better... :peace:

Welcome, Simon. A pastry chef should be a good brewer with all that experience managing ingredients and controlling their temperatures over time. Try out the BIABacus and ask questions on the forum and you will be making fine wares in no time. ;)

Hey guys. My name is Nick. I'm from Colorado. I first got exposed to homebrew when I was about 8 and my dad started brewing. I've just picked it up myself about 8 months ago. I've brewed 9 batches now. My last 5 I've dabbled in the BIAB technique and found this site looking for tips to improve my methods. I'm excited to post and explore on here to try new things and get some good tips.

Hello all,
Been looking at getting into all grain brewing and found some nice BIAB posts…I'm liking what I'm seeing. The only thing i need to buy is a bigger pot…I will be brewing 5 gallon batches to keg in my 5 gallon cornys…will a 10 gallon pot do, or should I step up to the 15 gallon? I just downloaded the biabacus and starting to play with it….can most recipes I see be used in a BIAB as in the amounts for each ingredient? or will each one change once i put in this calc? Thanks,,,this site is awesome!!! Also, is there a place in the BIABacus that i can input the non-metric data? I see I can input the liters and such and it shows u the gallons..but can i input the non-metric data like gallons without converting first?

Thanks for all your help.

Hi bozkm, welcome to the best forum on the subject of BIAB.
Good questions  , I would suggest a 15gal pot would be the way forward as it offers a good headspace for boiling and large mashes . This the size I use.
As for using recipes you may find in magazines books or on the internet, I'm afraid that nearly all of them don't provide enough info to replicate them accurately with your equipment. The best book for BIABacus is Brewing Classic Styles by John Palmer and Jamil Zainasheff.

Click on the links provided by joshua in the post above as there is great info in there which will explain using recipes in BIABacus and clear brewing terminology.
As for using Gallons as the primary unit within BIABacus, it's not possible at the moment. Burn this into your mind, 1gal = 3.78L, 1gal = 3.78L, 1gal = 3.78L, 1gal = 3.78L hahaha...sorry :D
Keep on brewing and learning, as there is so much to learn and drink.

Cheers topendbrewer

Good day Brewers!

My name's Jim and I live in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), done a few Mr Beer kits (that I got for Christmas from my wife) and have now got the itch to move to BIAB.

Recently picked up a SS Brew Bucket and cant wait to get brewing using it. Actually just bottled an IPA this morning, and hopefully that will be my last Mr Beer Kit.

Going through the threads here have helped already as it feels like I'm a seasoned All Grainer already.

Cant wait to pick everyones brains and continue to learn from the FAR more experienced.

Hello to all,
Although I seem to have joined the BIAB forum in June 2013, it seems I never got around to making any posts - I remember being a bit busy with unexpected house guests during a flood here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Anyway I have certainly gotten an incredible amount of good advise, recipe ideas (and great calculators), and equipment info from lurking here for the last year and half. Thank you.
Now I have about 6 to 8 BIAB brews under my belt (as well as down my throat) I have some more advanced questions and queries I hope to ask in the future.
Bob

Hello,

My brewing experience goes back to 1980. The first batches were almost undrinkable, but over the years I've gotten much better at making the beer that I like. So far I've been using partial mash recipes, but its time to convert to all grain. I've just started to gather information on putting together an eBIAB system. This forum looks like it will be a great source of information.

Hi all,

Posting from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England having arrived on here via Jim's Brew Kit.

Never brewed a pint in my life but decided it's something that will happen in 2015.

Drifted from thinking about starting with a kit, to straight in with full grain brewing, to malt extract brewing and finally decided that BIAB is the best place for me to start.

Yet to buy any kit or any ingredients but have bought a book and browsed a few sites.

I am therefore at the start of my journey and hope to pick up plenty of good advice from places such as this.

Cheers,

Mad Harry

Hello from a hopeful BIAB'er
This weekend should be my first BIAB attempt after several successful extract brews.

1. Where are you from? 1 hour North of NYC

2. How did you stumble across the site? Recommendation from Homebrewtalk

3. What you think of it so far? Too new to comment

4. Have you brewed at all before. If so, for how long and what method are you currently using? Three extract brews since receiving a kit for Christmas. Some previous brewing experience (20 years ago) and some wine making.

Have new kettle, stove, bags and grain on the way.
Throwing caution to the wind and making up my own recipe for a Belgian IPA.

5. Do you work? Are you retired or maybe you run a household? Work waaay too much - that's why I need all this beer!

Cheers

Chris
