Upgrading to BIAB

Hi all,
I don't think I've ever posted here before but I have decided to go over to the dark side and upgrade to BIAB. I have been brewing kits for a number of years and always thought that all grain was either too expensive or too much trouble. After a lot of reading in these forums, it doesn't look too bad, so I bought a Buffalo 40L urn.

I'm going to try a Little Creatures clone first up, as I like that beer, so I have used the BIABacus to input the data. While I am ready to go (I think) and I've read how to use the BIABacus, I'm still worried that I'm missing something as I've never done it before.

I would appreciate it if the learned ones among you could check my attached BIABacus file to see if I have in fact stuffed anything up? I'd rather know now than waste a whole brew of beer.

I appreciate everyone's time spent on this..

Not a bad start Greg. The only problem that I can see is that you need too fill out the original recipe VAW in section D. This will scale the hops in your recipe for you. Other than that carry on. I only gave it quick look and some of the real recipe and Biabacus experts may have some better input.

OZ couple of quick observations and questions,
I see its a clone but you didn't put in where recipe was from ..just so we could see original recipe,
Second, noticed 2 liters added to boil .. Is this because you don't think TWN will fit in your kettle ? or to make up for KFL ?
Thirdly, Strike water temp adjustment ?

I got the recipe from here: http://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1471 but it was in a text format so I put the figures into Biabacus myself.
I was a bit worried with the warning "approaches kettle limits" so I kept 2 litres out to make myself feel safer. Not sure whether it was actually required though.
I read that for an urn like mine the strike water temp adjustment would be a 4. I should probably have left that out at this stage.

I just did a similar sized brew in a 60L pot and the hot break line came up to about the 40L mark... depending on the pot dimensions... you'll need to be very careful of a boil over.

Your VAW figure is about 25.86 based on the original recipe End of Boil volume (VFO). Don't forget to add your purchased hops AA%.

As for your 2L held back :think: its a close call, with it in the mash you have around 2.5L head space :scratch: If your careful when pulling your bag you'll be ok. Just remember to pull it out slowly as it will act as a big "bung" and lift the wort with it so going slow allows it to drain with out spillage.
