What an incredible forum full of wisdom and knowledge! I can't believe how many times this site came up with all of my internet searches of BIAB questions and concerns! I guess I shouldn't be surprised (based on the name and all), but that is what made me want to be a member. Not only to have full access to all of this info, but to one day be able to provide some help to all other newbies with this awesome method of brewing!

I've got my 10 gallon pot and the materials for my bag. I just need to find the time to sew it! You would think my excitement would make that happen sooner, but life has its speed bumps and such.

Thanks to all of you for giving me the courage to move from extract with specialty grain brewing to an all grain method that didn't break the bank. I can't wait to post about my first brew and utilize the BIABacus I've heard such great things about!

Cheers!

Hi there from Essex UK.

I started brewing with extracts ten years ago and moved on to all grain soon after. Everything was done in a single vessel and it was only when I started to research the possible expansion of my set-up did I find out about true BIAB via a link to here from The Brewing Forum.

Looking forward to reading everything.

Sean.

G'day everyone,

I'm an Aussie, currently heralding from Canberra, since about 7 or 8 years ago.
I guess I stumbled across the site from just looking around at my options for moving on from Kit&Kilo brews, and researching BIAB.
So far, I guess, its an absolute wealth of info, and will definitely be a lot of help as I navigate this BIAB puzzle.
I've been making primarily Kit and Kilo brews since I was given my kit for my 21st (so 12 years ago now) but that's been on and off with a few long droughts in between. Since about a year ago, I've been hooking back in with renewed vigor, and actually taking the time to understand what I'm doing a bit better.
I've only just gotten my hands on a 40L urn, so I'm yet to jump in with both feet, and still need to sort out a few things (like a CF chiller) and find the budget for them. In the meantime, I've still got a kit or two lying around, so I'll generally throw some hops in with those.

I'm currently working (some blue IT company with a three letter name ;P ), and raising a new family (9 month old daughter), so actual time to knock out a BIAB session is at a premium right now. Hopefully in the next 6 months or so, I'll build up my knowledge, and find the money to invest in the res of the gear, and then should be able to have a spare 4 hours in a row on a w/end to kick off my first Pale Galaxy SMaSH!

Welcome Sean and Mick.

Mick, I wouldn't bother with a chiller straight away, try no chill:

http://aussiehomebrewer.com/topic/23742 ... ng-a-cube/

A guy in my local club has own national awards and only does no chill. I just no chilled two brews and the latest one I fermented in the cube and cube hopped too, worked out great.

I have some brewing mates trying to talk me into chilling, and just as many saying don't bother.

Welcome hopefully catch up sometime down there.

cannman wrote:Hey everybody!

Happy to be here!

I'm looking at brewing in a 16gal kettle BIAB. I'd love to come out with 10 gallon batches, but, I'm gathering 6 is more realistic?
welcome Merr'Ales and Cannman,

Cannman, read up on BIABacus, you can easily scale recipes to suit your equipment, and BIABacus will let you figure out how big a batch you can brew. you will see a 'red warning' when you're close to your kettle's capacity, and by using section W, the "water added before the boil" field, you can work out how much water you can add after mashing out so that the red warning disappears. You need to insert your kettle dimensions first into BIABacus.

Hope that made sense, sorry I'm not 100% sure how much 10 gallons is, and would need to know your kettle dimensions, there's a calculator in this site for conversions, but I'm a bit pressed for time sorry. Have a play in BIABacus, it's a great brewing tool.

Cheers, Nick.

Welcome aboard. BIAB can get very addictive once you get over the early hurdles.

I agree with you, the site in its current format can be hard to navigate and especially when you don't know whats hidden in there.
There is, I believe, a large amount of work going on in the background to try and update it. I know Pistol Patch is putting a huge amount of work into formulating useable documentation and in case you haven't seen it , Mally has put together this pictorial.

Feel free to ask "dumb" questions. We all do. Someone who knows more than me will answer.

Hi everyone,

Im from the Valleys, South Wales, UK

Been brewing kits for the last 2 years and done my first BIAB last Monday, which was a London Pride Maxi-BIAB. All went well and dry hopped yesterday. I will be kegging this on Sat.

Hope to get quite a few posts on here and do a lot of brewing along the way :drink:

Cheers

G'day,
My name is Garry (pilot26) and I live at Bensville on the NSW Central Coast. I was brewing beers with kits and Partials for a while and I never thought that I would take it any further than that until I came across AHB and saw how easy BIAB was.
Now I have started BIAB using an 70 litre pot that I’ve installed two electric Jug elements, a stainless steel ball valve and a controller box with 4 outlets that are controlled by electronic temp. sensors.

I am an Electrical Contractor, hence I do all the electrical work at the right price.
I also build a brew shed 3 months back, setup with an upright fridge for my cubes and a 320l chest freezer converted to a fridge with a collar to house my kegs.
When the kids moved out a few years ago I build a Bar in the downstairs TV room with a dual font and ice bank.
