Welcome to the show gnm.

The building blocks of the site are being re-written atm so that everything will mesh really well. I thought there was a note explaining why The Commentary stopped at pitching but I see there is not.

Give it a month or so and that whole top area will change.For now if you get stuck on anything, just ask questions.

So a complete pdf version is not available right now?
I plan on buying all the necessary things for my first beer next week and I am completing the list so, wether in pdf or post, I'd just like to see a complete guide in order to check all the steps and see if I didn't get something of the process of BIAB brewing. Can you point me in the right direction? :)
(I'll probably post the list I made so far in the right section of the forum to have a feedback)

gnm, BIAB, like any other all-grain method is really only the process of making 'sweet liquor' so theoretically, The Commentary should stop pre-boil :). Of course, that would be pretty crap! The current commentary gets you through to pitching but this site will look after you in any area. Also note that the Commentary is based on a gas-fired set-up. Other configurations are available).

Anyway, your idea to start a thread on what questions you have is the best idea for now for sure! Questions asked in this thread just get lost ;).

I have completed two BIAB runs based on input from a fellow brewer and am ready to start using this forum to take my BIAB skills to the next level.

Hello,

I'm new to BIAB but have been brewing AG for about 7 years. Moving inside with my brewing and thought electric BIAB seemed like a fun process.

Hello!

Started brewing about a year ago and been going strong since. Moved from Europe and couldn't find a decent Weissbier in the States, so I decided to figure it out myself. Haven't got there yet, but I'm getting better.

Like most, I've found a lot on internet hubs, but most require a lot of review before serious consideration. My first impressions of the site here were that it was a bit formal, but then I realized that was what I was looking for. Something akin to sitting in a garage with an experienced mechanic. Figured I'd sit it in for a bit.

I'm trying to get this BIAB method down now and have some new equipment that I'd prefer to keep in one piece. Maybe make a tasty pint or two (or ...) from it, as well. Appreciate the site and all the advice! Cheers!

Hello!

Started brewing about a year ago when I moved from Europe. Great beers and lots of selection back in the States, but I miss a fresh Weissbier and a proper pint. Anyway, I still have a ways to go and like the format of this site. Looking to get better at BIAB with a mini setup (3gal batches) and maybe pass on a thing or two that has helped along my adventure. Just got some new equipment I'd like to properly calibrate, too. Thanks for putting together such a great resource!

Brew days can make a great excuse to get together with friends. Unfortunately most of my friends like lousy beer. Oh well, more for me I guess.

Hi all,
From canberra. Found out about the site from the brew shop in Kambah.

My first exposure to brewing came at a 'beer factory' in syndey where they basically BIAB in an industrial set up. Seemed pretty easy so though would give it a try.

I've done one brew that is currently in fermenter but was from a kit. Slowly Tring to get equipment to move to BIAb. I have a cheap home brew kit and next purchase is a 30l SS pot and bag. (Read that you can use appropriate mesh fabric from sewing shops and stitch it yourself).

I may do another kit to build a little supply but hope to soon do my first BIAB. will likely go to a home brew shop to pick up the required ingredients rather than a kit.

I'm still a little confused however about using malt extract and grain vs all grain. Something this websitewill hopefully shed llight on.

If you need to know more about grain and malt extract you will find it somewhere here or ask in a appropriate area? this section is for meet and greet! One question may be helpful to many new brewers so we like to have it in a easily found place. Once more, we are happy to have you on board!!

Hi,to all you brewers I'm from Cheshire in the UK, and have returned to brewing after a gap of 20+ years. I started again in March 2014, and have been brewing kits, but feel the need to more on to all grain. With time being a premium I have decided that BIAB is the way for me. Having been on other forums this has always been mentioned as the go to site for BIAB. Hopefully with your help and guidance I can achieve my aim of great beer.Cheers.

Hello from across the Pond. I'm Mike, in Missouri, U.S.A.

I used to brew a lot (both extract and all grain), then was inactive for several years (working on a Ph.D. will do that). I've been brewing extract again lately and just go interested in brew-in-a bag. I'm looking forward to gleaning enough info from this forum to do my first batch around the beginning of August.

Welcome Fogeyman,

I have recently started BIAB thanks to all the help and resources on this forum. Start to get your head around the basics and then just have a play with the BIABacus. That little ;) spreadsheet is a deceptively powerful tool once you get the hang of it........

Hello all!

Completely new brewer here from South Africa.

I went the usual way and bought a starter kit about a week ago (Mangrove Jacks), and wanting to learn a bit more, started reading on forums. After finding an OVERWHELMING amount of information, mostly very unorganized and difficult to follow with more unexplained acronyms than most secret agencies, I stumbled onto a link to your site posted by a member on Home Brew Talk.
I found this site very user friendly with good info easy to find and decided to join.

Anyway, I have a feeling that I will probably progress to BIAB after I have done a couple of extract kits. I find the concept of BIAB a lot more logical and would be easier to set up in my current situation.

Thanks for putting this great site together and I am sure I will find all the answers to my newbie question here!

There are a few other "Seth Effrikens" :) floating around the board - see this thread. Glad you have found some of the info here helpful but it still need a lot more structural changes and writing so don't hesitate to ask for info you can't find.

Greetings!

I brew with my father here is north/east Wisconsin USA. We been at it for a little over seven years now. We started with extract switching to all grain about two years later. Why we waited I'll never know. About four years ago my son-in-law came on a deal where we acquired a 40 gal (US) electric steam kettle, a fermenter with a water jacket and just about everything we needed to turn it into a brewery. The logistics and money to get a three vessel system to work just weren't there. So...BIAB seemed like a logical solution. Over time we developed a system we cal Brew in a Bucket. We have a large stainless and food grade "bucket" we designed which we maneuver with a winch mounted in the rafters over the kettle. We're able to make 20-30 gals (US) per brew in about 4 1/2 hours. At our ages (my father is 84 and I'm 58) we don't consume as much beer as we used to so we don't get to brew very often. We do get many compliments on or brews and found that buying in bulk we can produce most of our beers for about $2.50 (US)/six pack of 12oz bottles.

I heard about the forum on the podcast "Basic Brewing Radio." I look forward to getting to know all of you.
