naptowndon, extending the mash time from 60 to 90 mins. is proving to produce about two more gravity points. It is well worth the extra time to do it.

G'day all,
I'm from the bottom of mainland Aus in victoria, Have come over from the AHB site, have been an extract brewer till now. Getting into BIAB by default after finding a perfectly good 40 litre electric urn being thrown out of my local cricket club. Was planning all sorts of mods but after reading more here i might be better off with the less is more approach. Because it is a one temp urn i am planning on using a HERM-IT controller.(any advice or links appreciated) Got 70 acres of nice land here so plan on growing some hops too.

Hi all,

I am located in Toowoomba, QLD and have been brewing now for about 18 months mostly doing extract brews. I now want to step up to all grain brewing and BIAB seems like a perfect way to start. I am starting to build an electric keggle so I can get out of the kitchen to appease the missus, and brew full volume batches.

Cheers
Jenno

Welcome muzduk and Jenno,

Lots of material to read here. Just remember this! It is really simple to do. Most of the materiel you read is good information but..... A bag, A pot, A heating source is all you have to use and store. Don't try to make it more complicated than you need too! Cheer's!

Hey everyone,

Im from South Wales (UK, so does that make it Old South Wales?), I have done a handful of kits but I fancy making something different and totally my own. I am just waiting for some kit to arrive and hopefully i'll be away. :shoot:

70 acres Muzduk, im jealous, Ive just been replanting my hops into plastic barrels and considering bolting a 6 metre post to the side of my shed to string them up to.
Here's the rhizome i dug up to seperate and replant, it had grown a lot in the 12 months since I planted it.

The urn will be an easy way to get things started and the herm-it controllers from Nev at Gryphon are good option for controlling it.

Hi all, been brewing for a few years now, started off doing a few kits, then moved quickly to full extract with specialty grain. Recently moved to partial mash brews using BIAB, and now finally have a pot big enough to ditch the extract and move to all grain.

I split yeast packs, top crop and rinse, it's all good fun. Big fan of the hefe/dunkel styles, hence the user name. But also love my big hoppy pale ales. Last brew was a 6-hop American Pale Ale with Warrior (bittering), Amarillo, Cascade, Citra, Centennial and Galaxy.

Hello All,

I have been a member of AHB for quite some time, and have just in the last couple of months returned to brewing, this time using BIAB to brew all grain.

Over the last couple of years, I have done many K & K and extract beers, which are the reason why I eventually gave home brewing away in the first place. Reading the many contributions by PistolPatch and others on AHB finally gave me the confidence to give BIAB a crack, so I grabbed a grain bag, thermometer, mashing spoon and built myself a keggle and a stand to house a 3 ring burner. Being a metal fabricator by trade, I had all the equipment i needed to build the kettle and stand. I've done 2 BIAB batches since taking brewing back up (first was a LCPA clone which im drinking now, second is a porter which I decided to hop with some cascade to see how it turns out as i like a bit of fruity hop characteristics and bitterness, that conditioning at the moment). First impression of this site, is i think I will learn alot from this site. Also, there is ALOT of knowledge on here, and its good to see a site dedicated to BIAB, as I don't have any plans to move to a more complicated system since BIAB will pretty much do what I want.

Welcome pist. I also started from AHB and migrated here for BIAB related info.

Post a picture of your brew rig in the BIAB equipment section, we love seeing new equipment, especially the home made stuff.

Hey,

I'm Mark, been brewing for about 8 years. Been doing small stovetop BIABs for a few years and I just bought a 30l electric urn. Turns out when I got it home it needs a 15A outlet, so the extra good price i got from the catering wholesaler just got a bit more like the cost of a retail crown/birko..
