New at this - Rye IPA recipe, could this work?

Post #1 made 12 years ago
Hi folks,

after some friendly pointers in the long thread, I realized that I should decide to simply get a 50L kettle.

I tried to use BIABacus to write down the recipe as I envisioned it.

Would you please take a look at it, and see whether it would work (combination of grains, hops, gravity) or whether you envision any problems for a beginning brewer.

Thanks...

I’ve just posted 2 files in the How to Convert Recipes thread and noticed a discrepancy with the hop bill on that thread and this one. In the original recipe posted in the other thread, it had two hop additions at 5 minutes whereas the report posted above has two at 55 mins. I went with the two at 55 mins, because that will get you at 72 IBU Tinseth (about what you want for the style).

Pre-release files should generally only be posted in a few threads but if you want to post your file up here, you may, as I have checked and it will be okay.

The seeming discrepancy is due to the fact that the file I posted in the other thread was output from another spreadsheet. It says there, 5 minutes after the beginning of boiling, I add the two first hops, and 55 minutes after the beginning, add another dose of EKG. So the intention was the same, it's only noted differently.

After I've compared my file and your two versions, I'll post the actual BIABacus file. The idea seems to be ok though? combination of yeast, grains and hops doesn't seem too weird?

Thanks for taking the time to find a way to brew 20ish liters in the electric urn, but it seems it will be too much of a hassle and probably a lot easier to just go with gaz and a 50L pot.
