So I am getting everything together for my first BIAB and all grain attempt. Since my brew kettles only about 5 and 7.5 gallons, I am just going to use a 52 quart square cooler (with custom fit bag) then transfer to the kettle. I just need a sanity check to make sure I am using the spreadsheet correctly to get grain bill and water requirements. I am pretty sure I have the grain bill correct (I just calculated the percentage of each grain from the standard all grain recipe and plugged it into the spreadsheet). I guess my concern is how much water to place in the cooler. The line that says 'Water required is" is how much I should bring up to strike temp before pouring it into the cooler? Also, the spreadsheet recommends a 90 minute boil but I've always done 60 minute boils. Does BIAB require the extra 30 mins for some reason? Sorry for the freshman questions. I just want to make sure I get it right. Obviously the amount of water I need changes depending on the boil time needed. I've put the grain bill below. It's a Amazon Black Beer recipe I got from the Brewers Garden book.

I mainly do 60 minute boils, not for any other reason than I am impatient.
For lagers I will do a 90 minute boil.
If you are using a cooler you will need to pour a couple of litres of boiling water into the cooler initially to heat it up. Pour this out and add your strike water at strike temperature.
In regard to water required, we need to know what your batch size is for this recipe and what OG you are going for

Duh! I knew I forgot something. Batch size is five gallons. End of boil OG is 1.055. For a 60 minute boil I'm coming up with 8.43 gallons of water.

yep, just doing a few quick calcs and 8.5 gallons seems about right to me too

More stupid questions. Since my brew kettle is only 7.5 gallons and I need about 8.5 gallons for this recipe, can I bring a few gallons up to strike temp (or a little beyond) and leave it in the cooler to warm it up while the rest gets up to temp then just add the remainder? Once I get the full 8.5 gallons required I add the grains? I have a five gallon brew kettle also so I could just bring some of the water up to temp on the electric stove and do the rest outside on the propane burner if that would be a safer/better way to do it.

Just a follow up in case anyone is interested. My effeciency came out at 77%. I just put the beer from the primary into the keg to condition/carbonate for a week or two. FG came in at 1030 which put the ABV at 4.5%.
