I am from the other end of things - Newark Delaware USA - (outside of Philadelphia)

I just started brewing 1 5gl and 4 1 gl batches since the end of December - this is our winter so I decided to start off with 1 gl - 3.7 l batches (sorry brought up this way you know livin in the states - hope you dont hold it against me) - first couple were a little troubled - cloudy wort! But I plan to do two batchs this weekend using the BIAB process.

2 lb (910gm) (Weyermann pilzner malt)

Williamette hops for bittering
Mt Hood hops for the 10 mark for aroma.

This will be my first attempt at the real BIAB one pot technic. - I am hopeful the BIAB process will help me with my wort clarity!

Thank you my friends - I look forward to the spring when I can test these small batch recipes in my 37.8 L pot. and really start brewing. right now having fun cutting my teeth on small batches with growing patients.

Good Day DrummoRC, Welcome to the Forum.

I don't believe Being west of Wilmington is at the end of anything.

This is the place to learn Metic to SAE and SAE to Metric and somrtimes Imperial to Anything.

Since you doing Small batches, you may want to look over our MINI-BIAB topic at http://www.biabrewer.info/viewforum.php?f=23.

Also, you may want to rethink Wort clairty after you read over the site, since clarity is only Important when servrved

Let us know how the MINI-BIABs work out, and if you have any questions, Just post!

Hello all,
New to BIAB but have been brewing by extract off and on for about 10 years. Want to make the move up to all grain and BIAB seems like a good method for me. Less equipment around the house equals happier wife.

Brewed years ago and wanted to get back into it. BIAB concept looked intriguing so I thought I would give it a go. 1st bag brew in the secondary (Kolsch) working up a recipe for the next.

Brewing from Idaho, USA.

Hey there everybody. Here's the skinny. I have the good fortune to live in San Diego, CA USA. I have been an extract brewer for 3 years and enjoyed it. Just now moving into all grain. Saw the article in Zymurgy on BIAB and was intrigued. Since I have a small space to brew I thought it looked perfect. I found this site and became convinced that BIAB could produce as good quality beer as traditional, so, I've got my 15 gallon kettle and I'm ready to go. Always open to advice so send it over. My main concern is figuring out how much water to use. Thanks, Jay

Good Day Jay(JayDog), Welcome to the Forum.

Great to know your going to do BIAB brewing. For your question of water, you need to know that one pound of grain will need one quart of water, and that will need 1.25 Quart of kettle Volume.

If you really squeeze the bag at Mashout, you will leave .25 quart of wort per pound.

SO, 12 pounds of grain will need 3.75 gallon of water, and you lose 3 quarts at mashout.

that neans a 10 Gallon batch will need 12 pounds of grain and 13.75 gallons to mash.

We need your kettle size diameter and Height and...........You should look over this topic http://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=286 called "Use this thread to convert recipes to suit your equipment..." and toward the end of the topic, check the downloads of "BIABacus"

I'm from Philadelphia, PA, USA. Someone suggested this site over at homebrewtalk.com to get some help related to BIAB. This looks like a great resource for learning how to do BIAB, as I'm just starting out with this coming from Extract and Extract w/ Speciality Grains which I started about last year and have been sucked in. I work full time, so it's tough to get the time to brew.

Hi Folks,

Brewed for a couple years about 12 years ago. Just started again in early 2012. I have a number of extract brews completed and decided to jump into AG BIAB this weekend. I am a member over at HBT and was reading a couple threads that indicated I should really look at the BIABacus spreadsheet. The BIABrewser site looks great and navigation and searching look good.

Good Day BradfordMonk, Welcome to the Forum!

This the place dedicated entirely to BIAB and the many variations of brewing it has caused!

Look around and see how to Mash one day, boil the next, store the wort(cube), and ferment the next day/month.

We are not limited to the "Out of Date" 3 vessel brewing process!!

So you can Always find Time to brew!!!

Ok, newbie here! Excited! I am from Central US, Missouri. I have been extract brewing for a few months. I have been getting the itch to go all grain, but have been intimidated by it. BIAB recently caught my eye. The simplicity attracted me to it. This morning, I heard a podcast off the beersmith site where he was interviewing a guy from Australlia about BIAB. That's where I found this site! I need a bigger pot and a bag and I am ready to go!!!! I am anxious to get started, hoping my beer will improve from extract! Happy to be here!

Edit: I was a lot more excited before looking throughout the forum! Now, I can see myself getting confused with all the conversions etc!!! Wow, back to intimidated!

Good Day RDBrett, Welcome to the Forum.

Chill, this is a way back relaxed Forum!! you may not be too far from James Spencer and Steve Wilkes at Basic Brewing.com http://www.basicbrewing.com/

These guys have done BIAB, interviewed our members Bob Stempski and Noam Shalev.

There is some guy in Austrlia named Pat Hollingdale that did that Beermith podcast #10, who might still be a member here :).

You can be sure there are the people who Started BIAB and this site has all you will need to know!

If you have ANY questions or want to join any topic, just post.

rdbrett Don't be intimidated! It's just a big teabag in a big pot! Everything else is just fine tuning! As you read up on BIAB it will become as clear as your beer!

joshua, I think that Hollingdale guy is gone? There is a bloke name Ernest Hemingway that uses his moniker ( PistolPatch )
now? That dude never writes less than 2000 words in a post! Good stuff but I think he uses "Dragon", "NaturallySpeaking" software?? He cheats just like he did at Cheesestradamus!!

Seriously though, don't let lylo or me confuse you :P. Pat Hollingdale pioneered BIAB in the early days and is also one of the original founders of BIABrewer.info. He still works very actively here behind the scenes.

Hello All,

Here is my first post. My real name is Carl and I am from Aurora, Colorado. I found this site through an instructable and I am very excited to try AG brewing. (I definitely feel cooler now that I am using the lingo (ie AG instead of all grain)). I am excited to see the wealth of information on the forums, and I truly appreciate the generosity of all who have contributed to the site. I thank you now, and promise to thank you even more later in other posts.

I started with extract brewing and I have brewed about 25 gallons of beer (mainly stouts). I am a novice beer maker and beer drinker since I really started drinking beer when I started making it. I work at an office and hold a relatively normal day job. However I would rather spend my time with my family and hobbies (including brewing). Now if I could just find someone to pay me to hang out with my family, brew beer and work on my other hobbies. That would be truly grand.

Well I suppose that is all for now. Maybe more later.

-Mehkai
