Good Day, Hop Fuhrer,
Yes, as the temperature rises to distribute the heat, and during the Mash hold to distribute sugar pockets and enzymes. You will get better efficiency!

hi, I'm Ian from Bucks in the UK. Have time on my hands following industrial injury... made a few kit brews. looking at mini biab, also like to do as much home made as possible, from home curing bacon and meats to soap etc.

Spent 30 plus years in the fireworks industry up until my injury, now bordom is my main enemy.

Post #3228 made 13 years ago
Good Day Ian, Sorry to hear of your Pyro Injury...sad.

Brewing Great Beer by going BIAB will make a good Hobby, and it will help fill time, as you will be able to make many decisions/changes to your Brews and test which is the best.

That is why Mini-BIAB is so good, you can make 5 different brews from just one 23L batch!

Let us know if you have any Questions, and we can give many opinions!

Hello, I am a recent convert (co-worker) and getting ready to start homebrewing in the next few weeks. BIAB just seems to be the way to go to really be able to get some good, clean flavors in my beer without the extract "twang" I have tasted in some others. I have found the forums to be very helpful in my quest for knowledge.

Cheers from Texas!

Hi from Riverside, CA
I'm just getting back into brewing after a 12 year hiatus. Breaking in the new brewing setup with a couple partial mash/ extract kits so far and then maybe one more before trying a BIAB. I figure with the 8 gallon brew kettle that I have it would be a great way to get into all grain brews even if I have to drop to a 4 gallon batch to do some bigger beers.

Hello All,

My name is Chris and I live a little north of Toronto, Ontaro, Canada. I have yet to brew a drop of beer, but have been hooked on the idea by a friend. I recently started trying some Pumpkin beers and my friend who is a home brewer made this Pumpkin ale http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f76/punkin-ale-145060/ and it was better then any of the 5 or so commercial ones I had tried. Add that to the fact that I was looking for a hobby and here I am. I have been reading about home brew for the past couple of months and love the idea of BIAB so I am starting to gather equipment to try a BIAB version of this pumpkin ale.
I look forward to 'talking' beer with everyone here.

Chris

God Day MajorBrew, Good the Hear your going BIAB,

Your 8 gallon kettle CAN make 5 gallons of BIG beer, Check out the Commentary at http://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=190

Also, think about MAXI-BIAB and use a Sparge to get another gallon or two into the BOIL for a full 5 gallons,

Let us know if you have any questions about Going Big with a small Kettle, or anything else!

Thanks for the welcome, I am back to brewing after a long hiatus. There is some great micro brews to drink but they are $$$ and with beers(term used loosely in this case) like Coors light being so popular I am worried about beer in Canada sliding down hill so better get back to brewing and keep real beer alive. Collecting some gear, should have a brew pot and bag tomorrow, have a burner already.

Thanks Joshua, that is much appreciated. I am looking forward to my first brew day. Will likely be another week or 2 before I have all my ducks in a row.

I hear you on that, the tax rate on our beer is just rediculouss. I went from drinking stuff like Kieths and Mooshead for about $1.75 a bottle, to getting beers like Grolsch or Stella for $2.50 a tall can and recently started on the craft beers and piad $7 for a 500ml of Rogue Dead Guy Ale and $12 for a bomber of Pumpkin Eater. Luckily, I don't drink a ton, so it is worth it to me to get an enjoyable brew despite the price.

Hello from Edmonton Alberta Canada,

I'm not new to brewing( over 20 all grain batches) but I have not tried BIAB yet. I am looking to try BIAB in the hopes that is a little quicker and a little less work than the trying to mash in a cooler and move wort around in buckets. I found this site while researching grain bags and thought it is quite well put together so I might as well join.

I brew because I enjoy it, getting beer out of it is a bonus.

Good Day Johnny_Dove, Welcome to the Forum.

Nice to hear your first All-Grain Brews finished Great!!

If you ask some friends over to try your Beer, you may have to Brew more!

But, look around the Site and check MINI-BIAB as an Option, as a 11L-12L batch is Small, you can brew a lot more often.

If you have any questions or have ideas, please post!

Greetings from Estonia,
I've been an extract brewer for many years and decided to move into BIAB around a year ago. Thank you for sharing a lot of useful information on this site, this has helped be a lot. I'll try to contribute in the future :)
Did my first 30l batch of Märzen-style beer yesterday and had a lot of fun. We'll see how it turned out hopefully in March.

Welcome to the forum jaanist - our first Estonian I'm pretty sure .

Congratulations on your first BIAB. And a Marzen at that .

Your pic has me fascinated as well. I'm trying to work out what the middle bit is and what the orange cord thing is as well as what is on the right :).

Hopefully we'll see a lot of posts from you jaanist as posts from members from smaller countries are always really interesting/valuable to the members from larger countries.

All the best for your Marzen,
PP

Hello all, newish brewer from the UK here.
Ive been brewing kits for around two years now (8 kits or so) and decided Its time to move on to something I have more control over, want to start BIAB before I commit to all grain full time. Ive got myself a 19 litre pot so I can do mini biab to start with, maybe end up with 10-12 litres of beer.

Good Day Pumpkin Escobar, Welcome to the Forum.

Good to Hear you are moving from Kits, and going to ALL-Grain Beer!

Brewing MINI-BIAB is a great way to brew, you can make many differnet Beers, with smaller Fermenters and Less grain per batch.

If you have Any questions, Please post. We can help.

Initailly I'm going to go down the route of tried and tested recipes, obviously the idea of all grain is create my own receipes though.
Ive tried to get my head around using the brewsmith and brewmate software to calculate this but I am struggling at the moment although Im sure it will click eventually. Are there other spreadhseets/software specifically designed for biab and mini biab brews? I will get round to trawling through the forum and searching myself so apologies if this question gets asked by everyone.
