New BIABer, best method in a 33L boiler?

Post #1 made 14 years ago
Howdy. I've had a good ol' look through some topics and have been using Mini-BIAB to make All Grain beer for some time, 2 gallon batches, some of which have been fantastic. My Xmas beer is already bottled and conditioning, that's how tasty is was by the 6 month mark last year! So now, I'm thirsting to go AG.

I'd like to go the full whack and I'm in the process of buying and building a 33L boiler.

What's my best method for getting a full 23L out of this size boiler? I would be mashing in the boiler, as most do, and using the no chill method.

Cheers!

Hi there Rob,

Firstly, is there any chance you could go a bigger boiler, say 40-50L? This would enable you to pure BIAB your brews (put all the water in in one hit) which makes everything a lot easier.

If you can't do this, there are work arounds. Short on time atm to explain that side but some of the max-biabers here should be able to help.

:peace:

I'm looking into options now, i'm building the boiler myself so need something inexpensive. i've been toying with the idea of using a mash tun because I can easily get a 43L one for basically free. It would involve heating water in the boiler, transferring to mash tun and BIABing in there, sort of thing. then transferring liquor back into the boiler and boiling. it sounds daft but it may be a better option financially! lol.

Looks like it's another £12 for a food safe 60L bucket, a bit space occupying so I'll have to clear out the summer house a bit! lol. that's not really an issue though, as I guess it will save space on a mash tun.

cheers for the advice so far, it's coming together nicely :)
