Greetings from sunny Minneapolis!!!

My name is Knaus and my summer season of brewing is about to begin. I started brewing last summer as my summer learning. I'm a middle grades teacher and don't have much time during the school year to brew. However, in the summer, I like to learn new things (brewing, riding a motorcycle).

I just bought a 13 gallon kettle from Spike Brewing (http://spikebrewing.com/) and a BIAB bag from BIABBrewer (http://www.bagbrewer.com). I've got an all-grain Fuggle IPA kit ready for brewing tomorrow morning in the driveway.

Past extract brews include: Cream Ale, Surly Cynic Clone, Saison (by far my favorite), Imperial IPA, Pale Ale.

Hello I fairly new to brewing only been doing it for about a year. Mainly extract kits. Came across this board and thought this is the way for me to move forward with home brew for we live on a floating home so space is limited. So biab would fit us nicely. Not all the extra stuff to have laying around. Looking forward to learning more about home brewing and having more fun with it. For me it is all about keeping it simple. We live in Portland Oregon right on the Multnomah channel. We have only been living here for just over a year now and love it. Started growing hops our first summer here right over the water, they are so cool plus they provide shade for us. Fishing off the dock or from the boat is a wonderful way to enjoy the day especially with a home brew. Well that's a start if you would like to know some more just ask more than willing to chat. Have a great day and have a cold one for me.
Cheers

Good Day Highwater, Welcome!

Brewing beer on a floating home sound interesting, I hope there are no large waves.

BIAB is a real space saver, Of Course, Storage may be a problem.

You should have a good choice of Grains and hops, in Oregon, so let us know how your BIAB batches turn out.

If you have questions or have ideas, just post and let us know!

Hi I'm from Central Victoria near Ballarat. I have been brewing kit brews for a while on and off. I am pretty basic in brewing skills and if it can be stuffed up then I'm the man! I am a retired signwriter with time on his hands and enjoy home brewing, I am now starting to Brew 15ltr BIAB mainly ales and intend to master it one day. I found this site while browsing the net and am very impressed with how it's run.
I used to spill more than I drink these days!

Welcome alanem,

If you have time on your hands and enjoy home brewing then you have all the prerequisites you need. If you stuff-up things now and then you are in good company. With exception of myself everyone here has had a stuff-up or two and you can learn how not too from them.

Im in New Jersey. I started brewing last year with a Mr. Beer kit. After a few of those I got a starter kit from Midwest Supplies. I brewed a couple of their kits, and six from Northern Brewer. I will bottle my Oatmeal Stout and Sinistral Warrior next weekend.

My motivation is to make good tasting beer. I have been disappointed with the kits I have made, probably some of that is my inexperience, and maybe I just don't like those kit ingredients.

I am interested in trying All Grain and will soon do so via (BIAB) Brew in a Bag.
I just ordered a couple of 5 gallon SS pots from Adventures in Homebrewing.
I will get a couple of laundry bags from Bed Bath Beyond, and I'm ready to go.

If it goes well, I will start making small batches (since I wont need kits, and can just buy teh grains and hops) and experiemnet a bit.

I would like to be able to brew a good IPA. So far I have been disappointed with all teh IPAs I have brewed. Possibly water is a factor.
Jamils Evil Twin (Northern Brewer)
Chinook IPA (Northern Brewer)
and one from Midwest (maybe Hopscare?)

I would LOVE to be able to brew a beer similar to Stones IPA! That is my Holy Grail.
I have an All Grain recipe from BYO Magazine that I will try in a month or two.

Hi all, I am planning to move to BIAB in the next few weeks. I have been brewing kits for several years off and on but I am drawn to this method as opinion seems to suggest that results are far superior. This is from posters on jims home brew forum.
I would like to start with a TT Landlord style brew. Is it better to start with a "kit" containing all the grains, hops etc or go for it and buy all ingredients myself?

Thanks for looking and please be gentle!

Post #2596 made 13 years ago
Hi wOnky

Welcome to the site.

You can buy the grains/hops as a kit but I'd look up the calculator first, formulate your recipe and post it up for comment. Once things are scaled to your recipe you can then order your gear.

Any probs post away and someone will help.

Hi all,

Live in the Piedmont of North Carolina (US) just outside Raleigh. NC is fast becoming a hotbed for craft beers and breweries. I got started brewing with the infamous Mr Beer kit that was a Christmas gift from my daughter. Have been going for two years now constantly increasing my skill, equipment and knowledge. Kicked Mr Beer to the curb after about two batches. Have around 20 LME/DME/specialty grain batches and around 5 all-grains under my belt. Was at my LHBS a few weeks ago and they were doing a BIAB in the parking lot. Got me interested and here I am. Looks like a great site that will be growing quickly as this brew style gains in popularity. Look forward to being part of the group.
