By far, the very best fining agent in the universe is... time + gravity.

If you do whirlpool, try a ring of stainless mesh in the bottom of your kettle... My brother and I started using one about a third the diameter of our our pot and it's amazing how much trub it catches. Ours is about 2" high and we drop it in about halfway through the chilling cycle. Cheers!
