As hashie said, 81% should be achievable by all, but to discount any error in measurement etc it is best to get an average over 5 brews or so. If you follow your same methods then you should be able to repeat your efficiency.

The achievable efficiency depends on your liquor to grain ratio and your sparge volume.

Check out this calculator

It actually derives everything from conversion efficiency

Great job! I usually end up with around 82-83%. It's important to realize that the actual number is not as important as being consistent.

I think what's happened is I am finally getting my maxi-biab sparge right. I have a 26l boiler and I start with 20l in the boiler. I did 3 dunk sparges of roughly 3l using my fv to sparge in and topped up during the boil. I was a bit despondent first time I tried this recipe because I ended up with just 17l at target SG. I know us beginners shouldn't get too hung up on figures I just wasn't happy with low numbers. Although...that 17l was very nice beer, so the true test is a few weeks away. Will quality be matched with increased quantity?

I posted pics and my technique (largely informed by Ralph's Maxi-BIAB guidance,) but was nervous about posting on this way more expert forum. Silly really so here's a link http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/viewt ... 21&t=21655 I hope that's not breaking any forum etiquette.

I get along great with everybody. Of course a few beers will help me soften my views. I just finished cleaning up after a brew day and my legs are so soft I can barley stand! I have to wait longer before I start testing ? past brews!

Nice brew day log. A triple sparge is going to really help getting all the sugars out :)

I think he meant this.

I gave the (Most)of the dumbbells to my grandson. I was to weak to keep moving them around my garage. I now lift corny kegs and glassfuls of beer for exercise!
