Good Day Cascades, Welcome Aboard, it great to here about your first batch!
To answer your question...YES, It will affect to time you need to boil, But Sparge, will help effiency, even a double sparge is good, if your Grain bill was big. Many of our progarms have sparge entries so the boil off can be known. If you have more question please post!

thanks for all replies!
Re brew-in-a-bag-in-a-pot: last time I tried this I burned the (nylon) bag! Hence, biab in a cooler! Just bottled a dark red saison (type) fermented w/ WLP Saison blend - v. tasty! Primary grain was M.O. pale & Munich, so it's pretty full flavored, if not quite typical. Next up might be a Chouffe clone - we'll see.
Good to beon board; biab has already stepped up my homebrew a lot!
Cheers!
JSA

Welcome John, I'm going to be needing that Saison recipe please. I just bottled a Dupont clone (fermented with yeast cultured from a few bottles of Saison Dupont) and am looking for a few more farmhouse-style recipes. :drink:

Hello there! My name is Fred, aka Theshishahouse. I am a full grain brewer. I have brewed so far 15+ biab batches. I run a lounge and a cigar shop here in Daejeon, South Korea. I brew as a hobby and as a plus, it helps me sell beers more efficiently.
I found that site while looking for infos on how to control the trub more efficiently.
Nice too meet you all!

Good Day Fred (Theshishahouse), Welcome, it is good to hear your a solid BIAB Brewer. It's great to hear your Beer, has CUSTOMERS who pay of it!!
Controlling Trub is best done by keepimg junk out of to it. Using a hop sack will help reduce hop Matter, Skimming off the protiens that form a layer in the kettle during the boil helps. We will have more ideas, so check back often.

Thanks Joshua! Unfortunately, I dont have the right to sell the beers I brew. but I can answer most of their questions about our pricey offerings!
Anyway I use a hop stainer and a filter to pour the wort into the fermentor. I still get a lot of protein material in the end and it breaks my heart to loose volume at bottling. what a boy to do....

Coming to you from Wisconsin. Found this site when I googled biab and then heard more from a radio podcast on beer smith. So far the site seems to have what I need and I love the layout but it says I don't have permission to download the checklist which I really want. I've been home brewing extract for a year and a half and love it but want to expand and get more in depth.

Hello,
Brian from NW of Chicago. Been brewing about 2 years. Extract until a few months ago when I switched to BIAB. I have a Great Lakes Xmas Ale (awful efficiency and way too much ginger), a Milk Stout (great efficiency and tastes pretty good), and an APA (normal efficiency, still fermenting) under my belt so far!

Post #1848 made 13 years ago
Good Day Brian, welcome to our site, great to hear you are already a BIAB brewer, Efficiency is difficult to hit on some brews, temperature, and time are important, but Volume measurements are tough to hit at boil out.
Taste is the most important, then foam, then color. So don't worry about the process, make the best beer there is!

Hi All,

I've been brewing from kits for nearly a year now and have decided it's time to make the plunge to all grain and BIAB Seems like the way to go. So Far I've aquired a 30 litre electric boiler, waiting for someone to sew my bag and then going to try a few smaller brews (No Chill for now) to get a feel for it and see what else i think ineed.

I've seen this site mentioned quite a bit and thought I should get involved as it looks great!

Good Day Synapse, Good Call. BIAB is the best way to go All-Grain, No-Chill is a good way to save water get very clear wort, and have time to drink some HomeBrew.
If you need some more information, Please post and we can help you.
