Welcome aboard Tom :salute:

As to whether you can get a ten gallon yield will depend on a few things such as the gravity of the beer and the evaporation rate of your kettle. If by yield you mean into bottles then you would be pushing it.

Pure BIAB uses just a single vessel but some people who wish to get higher yields from their existing kettle might employ the use of a second vessel and/or dilution. When these methods are used we call it "Maxi-BIAB." Have a play around with "The Calculator". This will give you a good general idea of what you can expect. And, if you hae any questions, ask away.

Hi,
I am originally from San Juan Puerto Rico but have been living in Lancaster, Pa USA for the last 8 years. I have been brewing for two years, mostly extract and mini mash. I have always wanted to do all grain brewing but do not have the equipment to do so. In my researches I came about this method and thought it would be perfect for me. I am looking forward to learn more and start biab for the first time.

Hi,
My name is Martin, im from Sweden.
Been brewing for almost a year, started out with the most common all grain setup with cooler mashtun, after trying BIAB that's been my choice.

Cheers!

Hi All,

I'm Mark from Syracuse, New York. I've been brewing extracts from kits for about a year, and I wanted to try whole grain - without getting too crazy over equipment. I do have a propane cooker and a ten gallon kettle, so this seems doable for me. (I don't see myself doing batches larger than 5 gallons, or lagers any time soon.) I've yet to get the Voile bag, but have been asked what I want for Christmas... I'll probably try a first batch in a paint straining bag.

Outside of brewing, I work in IT as a System Administrator, which is a fancy name for a technical janitor. My kids are grown and out - in fact it was my son who started me back into homebrewing. I actually do make it over to the gym a few times a week, which helps when I have to carry that five gallon kettle of hot wort down into the basement to chill it in the laundry tub.

Welcome aboard Paquitin, martinj and MarkD :salute:

Nice to see that martinj is another traditional brewer who has tried BIAB and not looked back since. Great to have another Nordic member :peace:

Paquini and MarkD, maybe have a read of this thread on bags and this one on kettles.

I know several brewers use paint strainer bags but I have seen some photos recently of bags that seem to be way too coarse. Hopefully the paint strainer bags are not but I can't be sure. Maybe start a thread on here asking who else uses them?

Cheers,
PP

Hi all,

Ed here from Colorado, USA. I have brewed all grain for a while with a rather Heath Robinson setup (if you know what heatsticks are, you'll understand!) and was looking to buy a bigger kettle. Then I came across BIAB on jimsbeerkit.co.uk which directed me to the fount of knowledge here. Given the cost differential between a large kettle and a BIAB bag - I'll be buying a bag just as soon as I can and I can't wait to get started. I'm thinking of trying the Maxi-BIAB approach so I can fill my cornies...

Good Day Ed, Welcome, BIAB is qiute a bit cheaper than 3V brewing, Only 1 vessel. The MAXI-BAIB is the way to go with Big batches on a small kettle, and will make great beer just the same as 3V. Good Luck on your Biab venture, and if you have any question, Please post them, some, if not many will reply!

Hey Everyone,
I am in the mountains of Colorado and have brewed 10 5gal batches in the last 2 months. I am thinking of going BIAB to get away from extract. I am thinking my 7.5 gal brew pot is too small and will need to upgrade to a larger one. Look forward to these forums helping me get started with BIAB.

Hello Everyone;

I live in San Francisco, California. I have recently gotten back to brewing after many years away from it. I am very happy that there are so many incredible resources availble like this site. I'm very anxious to learn biab. What a great way to brew! I'm glad so many brewers out there are really thinking, not just copying.

Hello Guys,
I am from the great state of Idaho and have been home brewing (extract) for about six years now. I have always had a desire to take the step up to all grain and was encouraged by a local brew shop to start with BIAB to get my feet wet and to also reduce my set up cost. I came across this site while surfing for BIAB information, and from what I have seen it really is a great resource for BIAB brewers.

Cheers

Hello all,

My name is Aaron. I'm originally from Michigan and have recently moved out to California with my Navy wife.

I've been brewing beer, wine, and mead for a few years. The beer I've made has been with Mr. Beer extract kits. I've been increasingly frustrated with the quality and looking to move to something better like the extract kits of Northern Brewer or Midwest Brewing. On the homebrewing subreddit I ran across the BIAB method. I became fascinated and decided this is the method for me. I ordered a simple all-grain porter from Northern Brewer and am planning to make it tomorrow.

This site seems amazing so far. I was pointed here when asking some questions about BIAB on reddit. I'm pretty excited to get started with some real beer!

I'm from Indiana, US, and I'm preparing to teach a brewing class. A fellow homebrew club member has done a few BIABs and I thought it looked interesting and I'm going to add that technique to the class. He recommended this site for more info, and more info you have! Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

I've done a few no boil kits as well as a few extract recipes. I'm planning on doing my first all grain batch this weekend using the BIAB method. I am making a Hoegaarden clone.

I found out about this sight after listening to the beersmith podcast. The method sounds easy and effective. I look forward to making my first all grain batch.

I live in Canada and work as an Engineer.

Hello everyone! I am new to brewing with about 6 extract kits brewed so far. Now that I am making good beer, I think its time to dabble with all grain. I already have a 20 gallon pot (I'm in Louisiana and we boil crawfish in these) and I picked up the voile material for my bag last weekend. Still need to build a false bottom/platform for my pot. Time permitting I hope to brew my first BIAB before the end of the year. I'm still trying to decide what to make, tough decision. Of course I wouldn't have even thought of going all grain without the info I found on this site. Hopefully I can contribute in the future.

Hi Y'all. I'm a new brewer from Alabama, USA. Not too pleased with the extract beers I have made so far. I then discovered the BIAB method. Have not tried it yet. But am hoping to with my next batch.
