Hi,

I'm a PhD student from Québec, Canada and I have two experiences in BIAB with a gas fired setup! First heard of the technique by my stepbrother and deciced to give a few more tries to improve the OG I got the first tries (which is a bit low, around 1.046) after hearing about BIAB on the BeerSmith podcast.

Cheers!

Good Day ngc6751, Welcome to the site! The OG trouble has many possibilities, Mash temperature, mash times, grain grind size, You may want to read thru our Extract Efficiency topic... http://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=251 . It is a bit out off date, But you can check it out and post any questions you have. Good Luck!

Welcome aboard ngc and to the other new members above :salute:

Don't get too hung up on efficiency. For a start there are several different types of efficiency such as efficiency into kettle, mash efficiency, extract efficiency, post-boil efficiency, efficiency into fermentor, brewhouse efficiency... the list goes on and on. To make the problem worse, some of these terms mean totally different things when used by different brewers.

So when one brewer says, "I got 65%," and another says, "I got 85%," often their brews are exactly the same . They are simply not talking the same language. The word, "efficiency," on its own, is pretty much a useless term unfortunately .

The most useful efficiency term is, "Efficiency into Kettle". It is the first point in a brew where a brewer can measure efficiency and it is the only common ground we brewers have.

Search on here the term "Efficiency into Kettle" and you will have heaps to read. It's a confusing subject so don't be worried about asking questions or starting new threads on it. You will get answers that make sense.

After reading the above, if you still think you have an 'efficiency' problem, have a read of this efficiency checklist.

:peace:

Dwayne from Henderson, Kentucky. I have been a cooler brewer for about 5 years. I stumbled across the method while researching the topic of low-cost all-grain brewing for our home brew club tech topic of the month. I decided the best way to familiarize my self with BIAB was to do a batch. I brewed a low-gravity dark mild using a paint strainer bag and a 8 gallon pot. The beer turned out great and I was impressed how easy the brew day went. I plan on doing some larger batches very soon.

Thank you for maintaining this site and allowing me to view.

Hi Folks,

First time poster!

My names Joe and I'm from Melbourne, Australia
I found this site through AHB and have just got back into brewing after a few years off after having a son. He's now almost 2 so I've got a 'bit' more time to myself now so I'm back into it! I just set up a keg fridge a few weeks ago and have been brewing from the fresh wort kits from Grape and Grain, some steeped crystal and hop additions - making pretty good beer but now I want more of a challenge so I'm thinking of doing a BIAB setup first. Plus the fresh wort is quite expensive! I've got a spare 3 ring burner in the garage so I figure I'll just do a keggle type BIAB set up in the next few weeks. Exciting stuff! Time to research!

Cheers

Good Day Chinaski, Welcome Aboard, BIAB is the way to brew today. Your Idea for a Keggle is the way to go large, Check our BIAB EQUIPMENT topic http://www.biabrewer.info/viewforum.php?f=53 .A few folks have done a Keggle conversion, and maybe they can help you out. Post a question or show us how you are doing!

Good Day kybrewer, Welcome to the site! It's good to see more SEPPO's (American to Aussie's) join the site! BIAB is the best way to go ALL-GRAIN. Since you plan to go with bigger batches, are you going with a Sparge process?? If you are, Check out the COMMENTARY at http://www.biabrewer.info/viewforum.php?f=25 It has a great description for BIG batches in a small kettle. A 8 gallon stockpot is possible for a 5 gallon batch with this process! Good Luck and keep us posted with how you do!

Hi, Mike from Ottawa, Canada here.

Found this site through a link on my home brew talk app.

So far I have only brewed 3 extract kits. I am really looking forward to stepping up the process. Since we are covered in snow 5 months of the year it seems that BIAB would be a great fit for brewing indoors.

I am really looking forward to see what kind of barely goodness I am able to concoct.

Hi Simon here, just started drinking my first extract brew and I'm hooked and looking to move up to AG already but live in a small apartment and I appear to have found my solution here!

Post #1466 made 14 years ago
Hello all!

I have decided to make the leap from kits to AG. SWMBO is a little uneasy about buying expensive tuns, liquor tanks etc. and turning the garage into a brewery so BIAB seems ideal... I have been soaking up as much information as I can, I have been reading this forum with interest!

I'm from Birmingham, England, so planning to emulate some good British beers.

I think I'll go read some more posts...

Cheers :drink:

Hi!

I've just started brewing here in Lexington, Kentucky - got a 1 gallon kit from Brooklyn Brewing as a gift. I'm looking to simplify this process as much as possible while still making good beer.
