Hi

I'm Ray from Nottingham in the UK. I have a loft full of home brew kit which hasn't been used for a number of years, including a 5 gallon Burco boiler which I used for AG brews in the past. I haven't brewed for well over 10 years but now is the time to try again. I like the look of BIAB techniques as it looks like a lot less hassle. I got disilusioned with the quality of kits and had considerable success with full mash.

For now, just enjoying updating myself with new techniques and recipes.

Catch you all later.

Hi

Colin from Ontario. I learned about the site from a post on the SOB (southern ontario brewers) board. I've done a few partial mashes and am looking to get into all grain with BIAB being my method.

Looking forward to learning from the experienced posters on this board.

Morning BIAB community!

Hello all, I am from Kauai, Hawaii. I found this site by link hopping from the BeerSmith forum. Unfortunately I bought my BeerSmith 2 keys before getting it through you guys :dunno:

This will be my first time brewing, and BIAB brewing looks very adventurous and fun. I have read that All-Grain BIAB can be discouraging for first time home brewers, but i got a really good support system. A girlfriend who likes beer and a brother who likes beer that is free.... LOL!

I think this site is awesome, and will be a good starting point for me in my brewing journey. Unlike many of BIAB community members, I do not have a Homebrew Shop/community in Kauai. So these forums are going to be my Homebrew community.

Hope to chat with you all one day!

Hi Everyone
Bill here from Tasmania, Australia. I have been doing K&K and Extracts for quite sometime now.

I almost have everything I need to start the BIAB. I have an Urn coming in a couple of weeks (already have a pot) and have just ordered a heap of grain to start with :)
Looking forward to browsing and hopefully participating amongst the wealth of knowledge on this forum. Cludos to the developers.
Cheers

Hi brewers
Just dipping my toes into all grain brewing at the moment, the last few months i have been trawling the internet to learn, learn and learn some more.
Recently i made a (1 gallon) 5 litre batch of lager just to see for myself the miracle of turning grain into beer and i was pleasantly suprised to see my better half keenly looking over my shoulder and asking if i needed a hand.
anyhow i,m not too proud to show my ignorance on matters brewing so i will be asking plenty of questions from those amongst us who have the experience
Cheers

Amber Fluid, welcome along. I started my BIAB adventure in Tasmania and enjoyed it very much. I am now living in country Victoria and still enjoy the process :)

Nothing like a good old turkeyshoot ;) Nothing better than having the other 1/2 interested in making beer. I hope you learn heaps while you are here.

Robrewin wrote:Hello everyone,
I've been a kits and bits brewer on and off for almost 15 years and started back when imported beers were harder to come by and often stale. I've always had an adventurous palate and my biggest problem as a starting brewer was learning to stop changing recipes/yeasts etc and stick at improving my skills. I found this site as I am ready to step up to AG. In the past the 3V method put me off, but I have come to realise from tasting the great micro-brews available out here in WA (I'm based in Perth) that you just can't reproduce certain flavours with an extract base.

Getting back into researching beer in the last few years I am stunned by the ingenious nature of my countrymen in inventing BIAB, nochill and fantastic resources such as this site and other forums. As an Australian I was aghast at the quantity of fresh water I could expect to use in a chiller and I didn't fancy the amount of storage I'd need to save that for the garden. Also, the practical difficulties of AG without specialist equipment were daunting. Now, thanks to this site and everyone's feedback, I can't wait to get reading the documents, get a Crown urn and do my first BIAB. The only thing confusing me is which mill to get as I can't find a shop near me that mills grains.

Looking forward to joining in on this journey,
Cheers
Rob
Get a monster mill mm2 :)

What with the aud at 107.5c it's almost cheap!

Hi, there!

I've been brewing extract and partial mash for the past year. The more I learn about brewing, the more I want to brew all-grain. In that vein, I was thinking about building a 3-teer setup (all with no real good place to store it), when I stumbled onto a BIAB writeup on homebrewtalk.com, and from there onto this board.

Looking forward to learning more about BIAB and brewing in general.

Oh, I'm in the South Eastern U.S.

Cheers!

G'day all.
1. Where are you from?
I am in Regents Park, just south of Brisbane.
2. How did you stumble across the site?
Think there was a link on AussieHomeBrewer
3. What you think of it so far?
Good, enjoyed checking out Ralph's Landlord recipes
4. Have you brewed at all before. If so, for how long and what method are you currently using?
Yeh atm I am drinking

Coopers Draught can
Morgans Lager malt can
250g Coopers LDM
17g cluster 20 min
15g amarillo 5 min
15g amarillo dry hopped

Kind of a double batch, but the other fermenter had Coopers Lager and Canadian Blonde in place of the other two cans.
I prefer the draught/lager malt one.

Got my grain bag and ingredients yesterday and the Mrs picked me up a 19L pot last weekend  . Just waiting for my thermometer from ebay.
5. Do you work? Are you retired or maybe you run a household?
Yeh, I do mostly construction.

Lookin forward to hangin around

Hi all!

1. I'm the Basque Country.
2. Googling for information about going AG after some extract brews.
3. This seems like the best place for resolving doubts and about BIAB.
4. As I said I've done some brews from extracts in the last year and I'll start AG as soon as I have my equipment ready for BIAB. I'll use a Buffalo 40l boiler.
5. Currently I work I do IT.

Cheers

Hi all My name is Todd . I live in Tylden Vic in the Macedon Ranges Shire . I work in the construction industry as a plant operator . Hobbies are playing Guitar , hunting and fishing . I have only been brewing for the last 6 months and mostly Kit & kilo type brews . Went to the BIAB demo at Grain and Grape and are now satisfied that this is the way to go . The information here looks to be outstanding and will be instramental in anything done in the future . Look forward to talking to you all .

Just started brewing about a month ago. Wanted to give AG a go because anything else is like making a premix cake.

Did a Witbier last week which seems to have gone okay. Really struggling with grain to water ratios.

stewielives,

Don't fret about grain to water ratios just yet. Get the system down first. There are all sorts of information here that will do the math for you. Welcome to the edge of brewing.

Hi folks, I'm a keen but still inexperienced kit brewer with about 5 brews under (my increasingly tight) belt! I've been keen to get some of my preferred beers cloned and that just isn't very possible using coopers style kits (although I have made a few very nice beers, a strong hoppy IPA in particular springs to mind). Keen to re create some Mexican beers in particular Negro Modelo and Victoria.

Have many questions but my first would be advice as the only vessel I have to mash etc in is a 16l electric urn and I'm wondering what the max brew length is I can acheive in this size urn?

Looking forward to hearing from you all in future.

Welcome to the forum moctez :salute:

You'll find all-grain a lot easier than kits - it's hard to brew a lousy one. As for the urn, that is getting pretty small on size. Maybe the Mini and Maxi-BIAB guys here can give you some tips? From what I'm seeing though, you'd only get about 6 L from that urn doing normal BIAB. So ask your question in the BIAB Variations forum I reckon. Someone will help you there for sure.
