Straight Sided pot or Keggle?

Post #1 made 14 years ago
Hello Guy's, just a quick question. I am about to do my first All Grain (BIAB Technique). I notice on alot of the recipe's, the examples are mentioning using a Straight Sided Pot. I have a Keggle, I would consider this to be a Straight Sided Vessel. Would you? If not, please explain. THX

I think the reason that people distinguish a straight sided pot, is for the ease of taking volume measurement with the likes of a ruler. This is very easy with a straight sided, flat based kettle. Because a keggle tends to have a dished base an a couple of ridges along the side of the keggle, volume calibration is a bit harder and requires a purpose made measure stick or calibrated sight glass.
Cheers
