Hop Strainer from PVC and high temperature?

Post #1 made 12 years ago
Hi!

After years of partial mash, I will jump to the all grain with a BIAB. I order my grain bag + hop bag.
But suddenly, I've a brainwave and see the notice on my sanitary coupler : HT regarding the norm DIN EN 1451-1
So I guess I'm ok, but the guy on the shop cannot tell me if a 90 minutes boild will be ok for this kind of hop strainer:

Any advice?

Best regards,
Dom

I brewed my Dead Guy clone Saturday. I decided to use this hop bag (pictured), I had sitting around since 2006, I reckon. I had about 9 ounces of pellets hops in the bag, and according to the BIABacus, that bag had 2L of water in it too. I believe it was purchased from Morebeer.com and was called a 'fine hop bag'.

Is this common for bags to swell up like that? Do voile bags do this too? It was a big green balloon bag when I pulled it.

Hops absorb a lot of liquid and expand accrodingly. I am not sure if I shoul or not but I always squeeze the bag out with sanitized silicone gloves.

I use flowers not pellets, but yes, you do tend to get a big green balloon!

Like Lylo i squeeze the ##it out of it too. Although i don't sanitise my silicon oven gloves, just rinse them after every use.

I've seen these in a few videos. I am going to make one. Why not go with 3 legs instead of 4?
Any advice?
