Barley Belly's Biab Brewrig

Just upgraded my old 3V system to a single vessel BIAB 40ltr Urn and are yet to crack my cherry.

In keeping with the tradition naming brew setups I have christened mine Grunt Brewko the Mighty BIAB Urn or just Brewko for short. :smoke:

Got a Gryphon grain bag ready to go and are just waiting on Craftbrewer to send me my hop bag and some new silicone hose and I'll be ready to kick her in the guts. I also lashed out on a staino mash paddle and a staino sifter to use as a false bottom so I can mashout and or step mash as required without melting my bag.

Future planned upgrades are a stainless weldless bulkhead, a 3 piece ball valve plus barb and possibly my Beerbelly hop screen. But I wanna get a few BIAB's under my belt in the current configuration first.

When I next get to relax and have a beer, BarleyBelly, I am going to open up this thread and savour your pictures :drink:. It all looks fantastic. Top job mate and nice to see another traditional all-grain brewer starting to enjoy BIAB. (Love your paddle!)

how do you plan to keep the bag off the heating element?
Cube:
fermenter: Sourdough Spelt Ale, Classic Lambic, Oud Brune, Barrel Aged Belgian Dubbel
Kegs: Bob's Black IPA, Blanc Blond, Soda...

Hi shib, looks like he's using a strainer/colander.
Btw nice setup there barley belly, it will be hood to here how it goes.

I was going to use the colander but two days ago I went to the local Stainless Fabricating shop with an idea and $50 later I walked out with a stainless perforated sheet false bottom.

I have 5 mins to go on my cherry breaking first biab and the false bottom is in my urn. Will post up some pics of it soon.

Gotta go, time to turn the temp back on and mash/stir till I get to mash out temp 76deg.

Will report back

Hi Bruce,
Grunt is the name of the tie downs, I got the same thing only mine are a ratchet tie down, and by the looks of it I think the wrap around is a camping floor mat, and Barley Belly has fixed it ther with the tie downs.
I got my grunt tie downs from Bunnings.

Just gad another look at the 2nd pic and had a *facepalm* :headhit: moment.

Gee it looks neat though, esp with cut outs for the handles and tap!

The wrap around is made from some gym floor mat I picked up cheap. It's about twice the thickness of camping mat.

And yes the Grunt tie downs came from Bunnings.

Well after two brews on my Biab rig I decided some changes needed to be made. I wasn't happy with the hops being restricted in the hop bag I was using during the boil. So, I attacked my old 3V rig and stole the Beerbelly Break/Hop screen from the kettle.

The hole in the original tap was to small for the custom 1/2" staino pick up tube, so I decided now was a good enough time to upgrade the tap to a 3 piece stainless steel ball valve. I also ordered camlock fittings as well but they are 2-3 weeks away. A hose barb will do for now.

As you can see the break/hop screen sits nicely under my false bottom.

I also found some velco cable tidies which I attached to the tie downs to hold the electrical cable.

I've shown the pics to SHMBO and all she said was one word,, NO! :argh: Looks like I'm gonna be stuck with my dull ally stock pot for a while :sad:
