Hi Jester,

I tried this a couple of times in my 30l Burco, but I found the losses, Trub in the Boiler and yeast pack in the Fermenter meant I was only getting 8-10 pints out of a batch. My losses were the same, not matter if it was a small or large batch, but the loss percentages were much higher.

My 'small' batches are now 3 gal, that way If the beer is a poor one, I can give it to son and his mates, and if good, I have enough to appreciate.

Also I have found it easier to keep quality high in a slightly larger batches as they are subject to less extremes

Do not let me put you off.. I have read a lot of other brewers make smaller batches very successfully, for all the reasons you state.

I'd love to hear how you get on

Hi Jester.
Small is good. I have a 11 liter kettle, I have a 5 liter fermenter so go for 4 liters into fermenter last 2 batches have seen 11 33cl bottles so that is 3.66 liters into packaging. I am happy with the efficiency. I brew for the fun of brewing and drinking it is a handy byproduct.

Enjoy small.

I do it you can do it lets all do it! I found putting a layer of l foil over the mash is good. Thinking head space? Heat etc. U cam no chill a 20l batch split into 2 10l cubes. Diff yeast diff hops. Ferment when ready. One cube @ a time.
