ohstone,

I brew in the cold. 0F is nothing to brew in!

The thermal mass of the pot and water hold temperatures well. First, keep your grain warm. That way it won't drop the water temp when you add them. Store the crushed grain in a warm oven? Second, cover the mash with a lid of some type and cover the whole thing with a old blanket? The propane burner is hot and may scorch the blanked so use old blankets. Also, you can always add a little heat along the way to maintain temperatures. Just keep the bag off the bottom of the pot if you are blasting away because it may melt the bag?

Look at the video at the bottom of my page here. http://www.stempski.com/biab.php

It shows how I brew in the fall or Winter season.

I decided to do my mash inside on the stove to help keep temp better. I did put a few towels on top of the kettle to hold the heat in.

I can get my water up to mash temp on the stove but it struggles to boil it. So I took it outside to the propane burner for the boil.
