I have a non-brewing buddy coming over on saturday so going to have a brew day. Coming to the end of the amarillo APA that was my first BIAB so going to have another bash at this to use up the leftover ingredients. The first brew was way below the target strength for this beer so will increase the ingredients and combine that with what I have since learnt about my set up to get a higher gravity brew.

Hope it goes well oz11, and that your pal is keen to have a go- the BIAB learning curve is a fun, sneaky ride and has Einstein moments and some really nice rewards along the way! :P
I'd keep a tin of emergency extract handy if you are able, maybe a tin of Coopers lager or something benign or neutral and fairly low in bittering. If your OG is way too low, just add some or all of it to make up the numbers. I did one of these partials recently as a refresher for my own sake, nothing wrong with that at all. Either that or we need to work out what could be going wrong- you know what to do if you've got any questions!

Thanks for the support guys.
The brew all went well, ended up with about 12.5L into the fermenter at 1050. No hitches, and spent the day tasting and comparing bottles of my previous brews. My buddy's fave was the first extract brew I did which was a dry stout, so next brew day will be to do a stout using the BIAB method.

Just finished bottling this. Final gravity was pretty low at 1008 but that's not unusual for US05 so roughly 5.2%ABV. Better strength than my first attempt which I am very happy about. A sample was sharp on the tongue so hoping that mellows out in the bottle. Look forward to trying one in a couple of weeks time.

All sounds good oz! All should balance out in the bottle so see how it goes.

How did your first brew go - the one that was below target strength? Did you still enjoy it?

Another possibility, instead of the stout, is a schwartzbier. It is very comprehensive. A stout drinker will enjoy it and so will many lager drinkers!

Hey PP
Only got a few bottles left of the first one as it is perfectly nice, and if I didn't know it was meant to be a bigger ale I wouldn't be able to tell from the beer, if you get my drift!
I'm not sure on my next brew yet, you keep the pushing the schwarz which is on my to do list :salute: but SWMBO keeps pointing out the number of partially used packs of hops taking up room in her freezer....so next one might have to a user-upper of stuff! (Or get my own freezer?)
Anyway..all good stuff and advice on here, many thanks for taking an interest.

Glad to hear the first recipe was 'perfectly nice.' (I can detect a cockney flavour to that phrase - lol!)

I push the Schwartz because it is a beer that will be 'enjoyed,' (my defintion: provoke joy) by a wide range of people, the most important being you! (In your honour, I just drank a stout while writing this post. It was drinkable but more over-powering than interesting to my palate.)

Using up bits and pieces from your fridge etc should still give you a great beer. We should probably do this occassionally just to teach ourselves that with good ingredients and a tad of comon sense you might even produce a beer that you can't define but that you, and others, say, "That is a truly excellent beer!"

Must be time for bed here ;)!
