No aroma so far?

Post #1 made 12 years ago
I put down my forth BIAB AG on Saturday and the fermentation is going well so far (OG 1.045 currently at 1.030) I am fermenting reasonably low as I am not in a rush :)

After taking a sample today I noticed there was no hop aroma at all? Would some hop aroma be present half way through fermenting? The wort tasted malty and still sweet.

Should I dry hop after it has fermented out? It's an American Brown Ale style brew.

Should I dry hop with Citra or Galaxy or both? how much? Would 30g of each be enough? too much? not enough?

Thanks in advance!

I don't tend to check my wort during fermentation Bung so I'm not sure on whether you would be able to smell any hop aroma during fermentation. My guess is that the volatiles of fermentation would overwhelm most hop aroma - just smell an empty fermentor - don't think I have ever smelt hop aroma in one! I think that once fermentation has finished, you could draw off a sample, cover it, let it warm a tad and then take an aroma test.

With that hop bill, I think your aroma will be fine though.
