Ron's new electric BIAB setup

Post #1 made 14 years ago
My friend Ron recently completed his new electric BIAB setup and already brewed two batches on it.
Take a look guys:
"RON:
it all started when a friend gave me a 100 liter aluminium pot. i wired in two 2000W elements, with a digital PID controller.
I added a magnetic washing machine pump (new), that takes the liquid from the bottom of the put and returns it from a side port located above the grain level. also added is a tap and a sight glass.
The pump has three purposes: to circulate the mash liquor during the mash, to circulate the wort during chilling and to whirlpool the wort after the boil.

and this is what it looks like with the sack inside:

and then at chilling:

so far the system has been used twice and achieved post mash - pri boil efficiency of apx. 90%.
"

well kudos to Ron. I am happy to say i gave Ron a good bit of info on BIAB and much of it thanks to all of you guys on BIABEWER.

the bag has a "button hole" sewn to allow the upper pipe to pass through it. it's way above grain level so there is no fear of loosing the grain into the wort.

I know this is an old post but if you still frequent this forum I have a couple of questions
I have a 100 litre pot and a 70 litre pot .I plan to convert one of them to a BIAB recirculating setup like this one
my questions
1) what is your minimum brew size(I see lines marked that i assume are final brew sizes)
2) does 4000 watts raise and boil your maximum liqor size ok
3) are both the elements controlled by the pid or is one run direct and just switched by the control box on/off switch
4)do you use a rack or false bottom to lift the bag away from elements
5) what pump do you use
6) what are your thoughts on the system now after all this time

sorry for so many questions I currently brew 25 litre batches using 3 vessel system with herms and am thinking of going BIAB for 25 and double cornie size 45 litres allowing for a few bottles.
i also have a 40 litre buffalo urn which I guess would work for single batches so I am somewhat undecided

I have ready many threads on here and aussie home brew to try to get ideas
thanks Paul
