Hoy,
Thought I should post my first brew since I joined up on this forum. A split batch single hopped low ABV APA.
The grain bill is a downgraded version of my favorite norwegian APA, Voss Oregonian.
Pale Ale Malt 92%
Vienna 4%
Munich 4%
I'm aiming at 3,6 % ABV. Fermenting both with WLP028, since Voss Oregonian is most probably fermented with that yeast, or something similar. I've made a clone with that yeast before, and I love it. I find that it gives some fruity esthers, similar to other british yeasts, and according to White Labs it doesn't supress hop flavors. It doesn't attenuate that much, so I belive it's going to work well with a low OG beer, and give me some malt sweetnes. I belive it's going to be one of my favorite yeast strains.
Since both hops are high on the alpha acid, hopping proved to be a challenge. I want both beers to have a heavy hop presence, taste and aroma.
5min 10g
2min 50g
1min 100g
dry 90g
Edit: Single hopping one with Mosaic and the other with Nelson Sauvin.
Just over 30 IBU, and I belive that should be bitter enough in this beer.
And now it's time to run out and get the first batch into the fermenter.
My brewing "log".
