Two latest brews

Post #1 made 10 years ago
I bottled today the barley wine, that was 1.113 OG and today 18 days later FG was 1.018, which translates to about 12.5% ABV. I'll wait for six months at least before opening the first one. It came out quite light colored, a dark orange, and there were some tones of raisins and toffee starting to emerge already. It was fizzing and gushing a bit when I siphoned it, so I hope I didn't bottle soon-to-be small glass bombs...

Last weekend I brewed a cream ale, "Weed, feed and mow" from Brewing Classic Styles. PAle ale malt, pilsner malt, flaked corn and sugar. For hops only Willamette. It's been fermenting like crazy, I used a 1.3 liter starter of WLP080 Cream Ale Blend plus 7 grams of US-05 for about 30 liters of wort, fermenting at 18-19 C.

I'm really impressed with BIABicus again, with the first one I was aiming for an OG of 1.115, and with this latest one for an OG of 1.050, which I hit excatly. Really nice :)

Good luck with those, onkel... On the bottle bombs... you generally want to make sure the gravity is the same on multiple days before bottling. But the alcohol level is so high right now, I doubt you'll have problems with yeast going crazy in the bottles. Keep us updated... :drink:

I might have to have a go at "Weed, feed and mow". I got a Weltenburg Kloster Pils from my LHBS and to me it had a corn taste to it. I really liked it. I got another one a while later but I think it had mellowed and did'nt have the same taste. I also read a story on Micheal Jackson Beerhunter website where he mentioned a Hungarian brewery that used corn in their Pilsner. So im keen to try a beer with flaked corn in the recipe.

No prob :)

Actually just bottled the Cream Ale. It went only to 1.015 FG. The taste was ok,quite fruity, but it stunk of yeast quite strongly. Will have to let it sit in the bottles for a few weeks.

So do you ad flaked corn or rice to Biabicus the same as you do grains?

Nosco, the Flaked Corn can add 44pts per Pound(us) and Rice can add 46pts/pound also.

I do mean, Points per Gallon.....You can convert to LDK/Liter-Degree/kilogram by Multiplying by 8.XXXXXX(I forget the Number).

Rehashing an old thread.
Incase any one was interested its 8.345. So flaked corn at 44ppg x 8.345 = 367.2. Does that sound right?

I have to read HTB again. Ill learn alot more second time around.
