Hi samuls.
Brewmart in Bayswater is also an excellent spot. They are very helpful and have an online store also. Nev at GryphonBrewing is also good.

Sorry guys, I forgot to post this earlier. Entry forms (not the beers) for this year's show must be submitted on or before this Friday 29/04/11. Details here. Beers need to be submitted on 8th or 9th June.

The exhibitor's tasting (the fun bit) is on the afternoon of Saturday 18th June. This is great fun so get your entry forms in and we can enjoy a few beers on the day!

Cheers,
PP

Oops! Just re-read the paperwork yesterday for the Royal Show and realised the entries are due in 18 days :argh:

Did a bit of racing around yesterday and have just thrown two brews on. Discovered I had no acid malt, pH strips or finings left so these brews are going to be very pure ;). Doing the Schwartz recipe on this site and a blonde ale recipe I made up off the top of my head and which is going to be out of style because I am going to be throwing in too many hops :P.

So, I don't think I'll be seeing a brilliant score but I have my two tickets for the tasting .

I think NME is doing two frantic brews today as well . Anyone else coming along for the tasting?

Cheers,
PP

Nah I took a sickie on Friday and got mine done :P Aussie Pale and an Irish Red for me. Both are bubbling away nicely :)
I'm looking forward to trying Pats super-rush technique to see if we can turn in something at least half decent ;)

Apart from random festivals around the place, the next big one will probably be the Amateur Brewing Comp run by WCB I think?

Hey!

I'd be interested in finding out more about Perth/WA events. I'm certainly not ready to enter a competition yet, but would be keen to come along and have a look...

Anyone know if there are any events planned?

If you're up for a road trip, the Manjimup Cherry Harmony Festival is coming up soon. They have a beer comp. I went last year, but missed the beer somehow!!

Good to see you made it here Poms. I'll makes sure I add you to Post #1 on my next update of the list.

Comp season is pretty much over for this year. Seems to fire up from about March through to July from memory so we have plenty of time to get you ready for next year's Royal Perth Beer Show. That's the best comp to enter because you get to go and sample all the beers .

I recently found I had purchased some dodgy kegs (brand new as well :o) so need to find some replacements of the right size and then I'll do some serious re-stocking. I'll let you know when I am brewing if you'd like to take a look, otherwise, once re-stocked, I'll have a brew day and you'll be able to get a drink and meet some other brewers as well.

:peace:

Yep NME, next year we'll have to plan ahead a little bit more

WA Craft Beer Showcase - Tomorrow and Saturdsay

This one could be a bit of fun though you'll have to buy yourself a ticket. I'm going along to the Saturday afternoon session. If anyone wants to catch up for a beer then, let me know.

Cheers,
PP

P.S. If I've missed your name in Post #1 of this thread, let me know as I haven't updated it in a while sorry.

That was a really good event. Great setting, not over-crowded and attended/supported/run by great brewers. Only had about two beers that weren't great.

Simon, (NME), the host of BIABrewer was there and very well-behaved although I was quite shocked to learn from some other brewers that this was out of character for him .

This event also boasted the highest female to male ratio I have ever seen at a brewer's event and they were all stunning. Caught up again with my future wife and her temporary boyfriend - both who are great fun though every time I see him, nothing I say seems to convince him it would be the right thing to let her go .

This event was a display of what WA professional brewers produce. They not only produce excellent beer but are also all friends with each other so they share what they learn and act as a team to produce events like this. Better still, they even love talking to amateur brewers and swapping thoughts. It's an excellent community.

Great beers produced through a combination of skill, humility and passion would probably sum it up.

Loved it

P.S. Getting to know these brewers is easy. Make sure you don't miss out on the next event like this. It's fun and you'll learn heaps.

Haha. It's amazing what people remember about you sometimes :P

Yeah I had an abosolute ball! All the brewers were more than happy to tell you about the ins and outs of their various beers. The atmosphere was great. While I was enjoying a beer in a shady spot, the old guy next to me sparked up conversation and it turns out he'd been home brewing for years and told me all about his method for reculturing yeast, which has inspired me to have a go.

Apart from needing a little more shade, I really could fault the event at all! Lots of good beer, with reasonable price tastings, good people and even the food was good! I'll definitely be going next year.
