   I brewed this for my first attempt at BIAB. It turned out great and tastes delicious so thought I would post the recipe up here. Would highly recommend if you like your porter smokey. Thanks again to Yeasty and PistolPatch for the help.

   1. I used German smoked malt (Weyermann)
   2. I use a standard thermometer (not a digital one) so fahrenheit is just easier to read. Also, I'm English. It's in our blood to confuse matters with a mix of metric and imperial. We weigh food by the kilo/gram and people in stones/pounds :/
   3. The weight of malt is what I got when scaling the recipe in the calculator, so I thought I'd pass on the recipe as accurately as possible and leave people the round it up as they please.

   Randy Moshers recipe. If you like stout/porter you must brew this. Excellent beer but with terrible head retention unfortunately. I'll say no more
   2.3kg wheat malt
   1.8kg Munich
   1.4kg lager malt
   0.7kg medium crystal
   0.227kg porridge oats toasted in oven at 150c for 40mins until brown and smelling of cookies
   0.17kg black patent malt
   14g northern brewer 7% 90mins

   This is the recipe for a Belgian Style Christmas ale that I brewed last week. I say Belgian style, as I've dropped some of the complex malts in favour of simpler alternatives, hoping that it will age and come good in time for this Christmas.
   
   On with the recipe:
   
   Style: Belgian Dubbel
   
   Volume into Fermenter: 10.8L
   OG: (after addition of sugar) 1.058

   Yea :thumbs: that would be great cheers I'll send you a PM, let me know what the postage is. My recent brew is going to be Dark as I only had dark crystal, I'm keen to give it another go but with some light so to keep it golden. Your slant will come in handy for that.

   Hi All
   Really enjoyed a slab of Mountain Goat Steam ale on the weekend and want to brew BIAB clone.
   Have a recipe but it calls for Sanfrancisco Yeast WLP810.
   Problem is, my local HBS does not carry White Labs yeast, so wanted to know if:
   1. Have any suggestions about swapping a WLP810 for other yeasts ?
   2. Any one BIAB an Anchor Steam ale ?
   3. Or BIAB a California Common ale and had a good result and recipe?

   I am still trying to determine what my first Biab is going to be. I am currently traveling thru Italy on vacation but when I get back I need to make my Biab bag and get moving brewin!!!    Hey all,
   We had our annual Brew Party here three weeks ago. I usually take the opportunity to team up with people i don't brew with regularly and also to brew something out of the ordinary (last year is was a Flanders Red Ale).

    My next brew is going to be Belgian; a strong/golden ale like Duvel or something.
    
    Most recipes talk about using plenty of sugar, and often this is grouped as if it's part of the grain bill. Does this mean I add sugar to the mash? Normally, any sugar I use is in the boil.

    With all the experienced BIABers on site why don't we have a large library of BIAB ready recipes? I know with mine that I really haven't had any knowledgeable input into how good they are or aren't.I likeem and I drinkem.
    However I am sure that many of the grizzled veterans on this forum are hoarding away a lot of old family recipes that we could easily download and use with very little to no scaling.I would even venture a guess that I wouldn't even need to look elsewhere for inspiration!

    Well, I stand corrected. We have a local store (Beers of the World) which, as the name implies, imports beer from all over the world. I just checked on-line and it appears they stock several Wychwood beers including HobGoblin! Reckon I need to wander outside of the Belgian section next time I visit that store.

    Quick one if you need some beer over the holidays.
    I always thought wheat beers were supposed to taste like the toilet blocks in men's rooms (especially the purple ones) :? - until I had a few Murrays Whale Ales on holiday. Hence the whale connection.
    
    Lovely easy drinking beer with a fresh bread taste and satisfying mouthfeel - I made mine on San Diego Super Yeast from Whitelabs (WLP090) but any American Ale yeast would work perfectly, plus any high alpha hop for a bittering addition only...

    I agree squared, It's a very sessionable beer especially on a warm day. The peach sounds interesting :think: Not really my cup of tea, but that's the beauty of this recipie in that you can treat it like a bit of a blank canvas due to the low IBUs and that clean malt flavour. :peace:

    here's an experiment that turned out to be two outstanding beers.
    i brewed 40L of one wort, split it into two cubes and fermented with a few variations.
    one beer is a Belgian Strong Ale and the other a HellerBock Lager (Maibock).
    
    the Bock was a huge hit at our Israeli Independence Day party last night. i downed 4 pints and got a very nice buzz ;)

    I'm new to BIAB, but have brewed and enjoyed a number of extract concoctions of my own for the last few months. I'd really value your thoughts on this:-
    
    10 Litre brew/boil:
    
    2kg pale wheat malt
    150g chocolate wheat malt
    150g Caramunch
    120g Pale Belgian malt
    500g aromatic malt
    
    Saaz hops – 30g for 60 mins
    Liberty & Saaz hops – 15g each for last 15 mins
    Liberty hops – 20g last 5 mins
    
    Yeast: Fermentis Safale S-04
    
    Any thoughts, advice, suggestions or amendments are more than welcome. You can't...

    That commentary is comprehensively helpful. Not quite sure how I missed it first time round, but it's confirmed I did most things right, and has given me a couple of pointers for the future..!
    
    So, with regards to a Mini Maxi, sparging into another vessel big enough will extract as much as possible without diluting it too much, and adding this back to the boil vessel will pretty much be the same as if I originally mashed 12-14 litres ? Cool. Only problem is, I'm not sure I have anything bigger...

    I got a silver medal (English Ales combined category) in the 2012 March Mashness competition with this recipe.
    I wouldn't even think of changing the grist - it has such a great malt profile. It would benefit from a bit more IBU's as well as slightly more hop flavor and aroma. Both scoresheets suggested increasing the bitterness - when I brew this next I plan to be around 30-32 IBUs with slightly more finishing hops (21g or so total in the 1 minute addition).

    I'm fascinated by the idea of malt liquors, (the alcohol of choice of the homeless and unemployed in the USA - not sneering, we have cask wine in Australia :? ) we don't have them in Australia and can't get the USA ones so I've made my own. I reckon this would go brilliantly with US 6-row , which we don't get here :(
    This recipe calls for a high level of adjuncts which I prepare using a cereal mash...

    I'd never even heard of this yeast until I read it above. Just had a look and it's more used in kit beers than all-grain. That being said, if you are looking for more the 'crispy' dry kolsch, then maybe it will work.
