I can mark a topic with a bookmark but I can't find where the bookmarks are kept. What am I missing?

Update*

- Gold members caught a few bugs on the beta site. Just one left to solve.
- Solving the above and installing new software took up the week window of time I had available.
- I'd like to re-write the intro part of the site for the new temporary skin. I'll try to do that before...
- Next unbroken time slot I have is this coming weekend. I'll aim to give you the new temporary skin then.

In wonder if there's anywhere in the community you can write a guide e.g. in PDF and post it where other members may find it useful?

I've written a fairly substantial guide about 'getting started in home brewing' a 12 x page PDF and I think it would help others make a start, but I dunno how to get it out there for newbies to see it

I fear if I drop an article in say the beginners forum it'll get rapidly eclipsed and lost.... thoughts would be appreciated

Great post Nick - intelligent, realistic thoughts there, not negativity or pessimism. It's a good thing we like to take on the impossible :)

As for the diagram, I have quite a few more that investigate all the different relationships. Doing that sometimes help me to find some missing links. Nice of you to comment on it :salute:

Hi Pat

I have definitely gained great value out of the site over the years irrespective of the format/ interface. I've just bought some BIPS so hope that helps.

Good luck on the elegant solution. Don't be discouraged by IT headaches; even us IT professionals often have big issues with major changes. I hope you at least have a test site you can run up so you don't have to big bang the live system to the desired end state and hope for the best!

If using Google Chrome, you may find ; upon registration, after solving the Captcha or 'Sortable' correctly you are told you are incorrect; not being able to login using your proper username and password; when posting, finding the 'Add Files' button not working.

Got a strange one Pat & Sarah. I received a My first post notification so I clicked on it...It took me to page 324 . Seems to be 327 pages :think: :think: :think: Tried it 3x and same result..I went back to yesterdays email and the notification went through properly ..

uys once I find a way to post pics, I want to show you the clarity of the beers I have been brewing BIAB since I joined.

I just did a continental lager, no filtering, just my 4 step infusion BIAB that is so clear I am stoked like a beginner brewer. Being a lager head one thing we love to show off is clear beers.

Thanks for your patience over the last few days.

Having the site down allowed for a tremendous amount of backend work to be done (a more thorough IT explanation in the next post). For those not familiar with that side of things, an analogy would be that we were constantly maintaining, patching and repairing a crumbling building. The last few days enabled the old building to be demolished, new foundations laid, materials tested and then assembled.

Changing servers seems to be an odd process where some users will be on the new server, depending on their Internet Service Provider (ISP), much faster than others. Some ISP's can take two days to get you to the new server apparently.

If you type in biabrewer.info and see...
Blue:  You are being served by the old server, however, there is a red announcement which explains you can go to  bia.brewer.info  and safely post there while you're waiting.

Streamer, that's very strange. Had a look in the database and your style is set to the same as everyone else's. Leave it with me. I'm just hoping you've gone colour-blind recently, that way nothing to fix!

On Sunday, for reasons explained in this post , we'll move BIABrewer.info from the current shared server to a dedicated server. Before we do that, could you test the site's speed and post your results?

The only way I know of doing it properly (without any third party tools) is using Chrome so please post if you know how to do the following with another browser and I'll update this post.

That will be the name we'll use for registered users later on so that's okay. Other member names will change later as well. For example, Newly registered users will become Untapped .

This new editor is a tad strange (e.g. line spacing is not WYSIWYG) and might need some more work, however, if you want to see the BB code in your post, click on the last of the editing buttons.

One other error is that the center tags on old posts have not carried through. I'll see if I can fix...

For those of you who have been here for a while, you may remember the Amazon banner being at the top of the site for the last two and a half years where I just discovered it has earned a whole fifteen dollars :lol:.

In the last few weeks, I have been looking at the new PhpBB software that runs the site and it is so much better than the current version. We'd like to get it up and running in a whole new format asap and this has forced me to learn my way around the backend of the site a little....

In your User Control Panel, you can set it up so as you are emailed anytime someone replies to a topic you have posted to.

Is this currently working for any members? If so , have you ever had a problem in the past?

If it is not working for you, how long do you think it has not worked and have you had a problem before?

biabacus bug / substitution issue (or my mis-understanding)

Hi,

I've used the Biabacus successfully for my past 5 AG brews, after advice from Pistol Patch to switch from a 60 to 90 min mash all AOK - if anything, I've been over shooting my OG and the yeast over attenuating, and have hit 6.4% ABV, rather than the estimated 5.3% on the past 3 brews. Zero complaints though, I just need to up my efficiency figures and have been enjoying the higher ABV :)

Anyhow, I started out using just one recipe, and have only changed the hops via the hop substitution...

It's probably a pipe dream but a chat section would be good.

I'm a bit remote, so I wish there was a list of Skype names or something for biab brewers, when they don't mind being called with a quick question or six they could be logged on, if busy they could log off (gentlemans hours could apply 7-9pm etc). I post a lot (probably too much!) but there's only one local club member who also biab and he's new to biab too.. Anyway, end of rant lol.

Saving files in BIABicus

When trying to save a file on BIABicus (I run it on LibreOffice), I get a re-type password - prompt? I have to run a long list of unclicking the ask a for password or something like that, before I can save the file? Is there a fix to this?

A lot of thought has been put into a way of setting up a system that encourages members to contribute and be rewarded for their contribution but it's a very low priority at the moment. The site is small enough for us to know who contributes quality so when the time comes, we’ll be able to give those people credit for, time served.

BIABacus tweak

One thing which I would love to see in the next version of the BIABacus is a slight tweak to the Recipe Report tab.

Would it be possible to have in the Volumes and Gravities section the Kettle fill height?

I find myself the day before brew day printing out the Recipe report and having to write in the fill height for that section.

BTW love BIABacus and would struggle to brew without it!

I've noticed several times in the last month the site going down for an hour or so usually at times when I would normally be at work. If you notice this, could you please log the time and approximate duration here using UTC time ?

First downtime for this thread was:

22nd June, 2014 aprox 6:00am for approx 1.25 hours

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that the site is significantly slower for say the last three or four weeks?
