   1. Another STC-1000 build Chest freezer conversion

      I have needed a fermentation chamber for the last two brews. I live in Houston and I am lucky to get my house to 75 in the summer. So I found a chest freezer and truned into a fermentation chamber
      
      Freezer - $80
      STC -$14 off ebay
      Wiring and misc. $13
      $107 total
      
      I knew I did not want to use a ranco or jc because of the cost. Finally I found a video on you tube of a guy in Australia doing the same thing. Here's my attempt at it.

      New pics with a better explanation. I had to do allot of research to find a way to hard wire this probe into my freezer so that I didn't have to buy more than I had to. I hope this helps anyone else looking to brew better beer on a budget.

      Desired style of beer: IPA, WHEAT ex. Lagunitas lil sumpin :pray: , racer 5, hoptimum, rouge dead guy.
      Pot size 13 5/8 x 10 5/8 a 7 gallon pot
      1 gallon recipee or a 3 gallon depending on if I can ferment 3 gallons in a 5 gallon carbon? Air space concerns and all.
      
      My last brew was a dud. I went to the brew shop and told the guy what style of beer I wanted. He found a recipe he had made up, it was for DME and a 1 gallon recipe,he went ahead and did the conversions in his head. Then he tells me...

      Lampy all of you're assumptions are correct. However I did not use a secondary fermentor. So air contamination was not a big deal. I assume your not using a carboy but instead a bucket. If so I would check with others about whether or not pulling the lid off is really a cause for contamination . The one time I used a bucket I know that it didn't cause a problem pulling the lid off to check gravity. But that's just one experience. Hope it goes well with you. And I am glad to help .

   3. Attempted the Biabicus

      So I tried the Biabicus for the first time. To create this recipe I have used the ingredients from a lagunitas clone. Then I used the same measurements and volumes from the last beer I brewed Which was a dead guy clone That mad scientist had all ready brewed. For example I had about 8 pounds of grains and Un fermentables. So I just kept this same weight measurement , I did the same with the hops. Then I simply divided the grain bill weight by the three new grains proportionally In my mind this...

      Success! After applying your suggestions I have managed to convert a Low Integrity recipe to match my equipment. My problem was that i didnt understand that the the original grain bill design was the LI recipe. Kinda of a DuH moment for me :scratch: Anyhow I am feeling more confident now with the Biabicus. I think my next brew will be an original design instead of a clone.Thanks to all for helping me again.PP,MS and Yeasty. I will update you guys on this LLSS clone recipe when its complete.

   4. I am looking for a Lagunitas LSS clone

      After reading the intro for this section of the board, I realize that i am not quite ready to create my own recipe. I have more reading to do. So with that said I am looking for a wheat/IPA recipe. Hopefully someone has a clone of my favorite beer, Lagunitas little sumpin :pray: . If not, any tested wheat/IPA WOULD WORK. I would need it for either a three or one gallon . Thanks

      Mally thanks for the tip. I don't use my pc much anymore mainly ipad. So I have completely forgot about open office. I will attempt to use this application/software. I guess iOS can't do everything. Thanks for being helpful, I am not against reading and research but my brain can remember everything it used to. . Besides if you( tenured brewers) didn't have us noobs around, maybe this website wouldn't be as informative as it has become. Thanks again. I will post back if I need some more guidance.

   5. First brew low gravity? I think? Please help!

      Hello my name is Gabe. Today is my first brew iam glad to be here and look forward to picking your brains for much needed info. My first question has to do with the OG of my first brew. I started with 1 lb 8 oz of grain ( which my brew shop suggested and gave me+ me not knowing any better)and used 3.3 gallons of water. After boiling and mashing I tested the gravity it read 1.014 then later after chilling the wort my SG READ 1.020. Does this mean I didn't have enough grains to begin.

      Mally, I really appreciate your information, as I continue to study and learn from this site, more of what you are saying makes sense. Looking back, I think my boil was not as vigorous as it was supposed to have been. I remeber thinking that i could reboil my wort, but that thought wasnt based on experinece and didnt know if it would work, so i dismissed it. I have conceded to this brew, it can do what it wants.
      I am going to drink it and learn from it.
