      Hi,
      
      As i said on another threads i plan to switch to electric brewing. Can i fire the heating element from the kettle during the mash to keep the mash temperature at the required value? Recirculation is a possibility to equalize the temperature from the mash. I will have a PID and a pt100 probe for controlling the element, that's why i want to make a constant temperature mash tun. It needs to be said that it will stil be a biab mashtun, but i don't exclude trying a traditional mash with...

      Yes, my kettle is my mash tun, sorry for the confusion. The element in ULWD, but i have another one that i might use if the old camco will die. This is a chinese LWD (from my calculation, on ebay they say it's ULWD but seems shorter than a ULWD one).

      I brewed only using BIAB, besides some canned kits at the beginins. Every body that does BIAB say that this method, using the entire volume of water for mashing is better for keeping a good constant temperature during the mash. OK, seems logic, but the theory says that this way you will rather loss more heat than using a smaller volume of water.

   3. Step-mashing with home malted barley

      The last summer i malted about 20 kg of barley (six row i think). Now i want to experiment with it, the problem is that with homemalted grains you want to do some steps in the mashing schedule (at least a protein rest around 50-55°C) due to the non profesional malting techique.
      
      Is there any problem if i heat the water slowly (or as quicly as my burner can do it) from a protein rest temp to the starch conversion temperature? Some say that you need a quick...

      I will post a video from youtube later. I malted in the summer and dried the malt in the sun. If you gonna use the oven you will need to respect some temperatures, i belive around 50oC so you don't kill the enzimes. I will get back with the details later from my computer.

      I am a begginer BIABer, with a kettle made out of a 50 litres beer keg, with no ball valve installed. Regularly, i chill the wort with a 15 meters ribcage chiller, but i want to save some time and try no-chill-ing. I already found some HDPE containers to use, but the problem is that i don't have a valve on the keggle, nor a silicon tube, or any other high temp tubing. The silicon tubing that i found is either too expensive, either sold in a minimum lenght (>15m), so i need to...

      Hello guys, came here just for a short update. I was able to find a cheap brass tee from ebay and i used it for a couple of no chill brews. It went good, but the beer seemed a bit astringent, on the grassy side. I transfer 20 liter of wort in about 7-8 minutes.
      I also have bought a weldless ball valve with all the fittings needed, stainless steel, and waiting for the time to install it.

      i plan to build a brewing stand because i am sick of having to move the kettle from the burner to something higher just to be able to siphon the wort out after the boil. Are there any proven dimensions that should be followed? Some designs will be also usefull for inspiration.

      today i managed to brew my first no chill batch. I had some troubles with the siphon, as i wanted to start it by filling the tubing with Star San (now they sell it in Romania too :clap: ) and, with the copper racking cane i made in the wort, let the Star San solution flow. I could not make it work this way so i literally sucked it :lol: In the future i will try to fill the whole siphon (cane and silicone tubing) with sanitizer before i put it in the wort as i am affraid of sucking...

      I know the design, i have a T siphon that i use when i chill my wort. I could not find the materials for making a heat resistent one. Silicone tubing is hard to find in small quantities, and for the 10 mm one that i bought from my homebrewing shop i can't find a metal T. I think that the smallest copper tee i found was 15 mm. I have no idea what else could i use.
      
      This morning i transfered the wort from the cube to the fermentor and now it's bubbling hard and the smell at the airlock is nice,...

      Hello guys,
      i want to upgrade my keggle with a ball valve and all i can find easily are chrome plated ball valves. The technical sheet says that it can handle high temperatures and is suitable for food industry use.
      
      Had any of you used one on your brew kettle, will i be safe with it? Online i found many good and negative thoughts, by nobody speaks from their experience, just presumsions.

      I want to ask you for a recipe based on what i have right now on hand:
      a lot of pale ale malt, vienna, munich, wheat and some caramel (caramunich, carared and carabelge). For hops i have Perle and homegrown Cascade.
      
      What recipe can i do with some of those ingredients?
      I don't like a style in particular, as i don't have a lot of experience.

      I checked the wort with iodine before geting out the bag, after my calculations i had a 72% efficiency... In the future brews i will use a 90 min mash and compare the results.
      For isolating i used two old winter jackets, really thick ones. In 60 mins i lost only a couple dregrees Celsius.

      Hi!
      My last brew, a SMASH with Pale Ale malt and Cascade hops (homegrown) has a harsh bitterness that you stays on the tongue for 5-10 seconds after you drink it, although i didn't use so much hops: 50 grams of Cascade as 60, 25 and 5 min aditions, for 4 kg of malt . The smell is also a little bit strange, i can't asociate it with nothing :(
      Could that be a sign that my water is too hard, with to much carbonate?
      I can't do a water test because it cost to much (the price is bigger that 25 kg of...

       Hello guys!
       Can those of you who use iodophor for sanitizing tell me how it works? I mean, it really stains the plastic parts? If so, are the stains very bad or just a bit of change in color?
       Until now i have used Chemipro OXI but now i find that iodophor can be a bit cheaper and, i hope, a bit efficient also (i had an infected beer the last time i brewed, so i want to improve my sanitizing)
       Does any of you know if Iodophor is stronger/better than Chemipro OXI? (European brewers should heard...

       For my last brew i used bleach+vinegar sanitizer :-D
       
       One no-rinse sanitizer as mentioned on HBT is (1 oz. bleach/5 gallons water/1 oz. vinegar).
       
       Mix 1 oz bleach in 5 gal water, then add 1 oz vinegar; 30 seconds minimum contact/soak time, and don't rinse.
       Mixing bleach and vinegar can be dangerous... ceck this
