  I finally had my first brew day at the new house. 10 gallons (VIF) of 1.063 porter and 11g (VIF) of 1.044 session IPA, nailed both numbers on the dot. Thanks again BIABacus (and Ward Labs).

  I'm gearing up for another brew day very soon, probably within a month or so. The past 2 months have been very puppy-centric ... so no brewing for me at all. I have also been kayak shopping for an upcoming trip. Work travel before that as well. Hard to believe it has almost been 6 months since my last brew day.

  The recipe being brewed is Old Treacle Mine from BCS, so I can't really post my file until we figure out how to discuss those recipes legally. We'll have to work around that.
  
  I have this on deck to brew next week, and I've chosen to ferment with Nottingham as it is one of the options listed. I want to have an Erlenmeyer flask and stir plate before I get into liquid yeasts, so hopefully the Notty will produce good results.

  Hey folks, I'm just looking to pry into your experiences on how you went about achieving high attenuation on the bigger beers. Those of you that wanted it, anyway.

  I won't be using Turbinado again for anything in the pale ale style, that's for sure. Hop aromas are dying down a bit now, and the turbinado flavors are coming through bit more than expected.

  I entered this event , and was confirmed a table yesterday. :party:
  
  Basically I take 5 gallons of beer, my girlfriend and I will pour samples for a few hundred people. Whoever gets the most votes wins. 40-50 homebrewers are expected, and about 300+ tasters?

  Very good write-ups Rick. Have really enjoyed reading them. I think a lot of comps etc are way under-resourced for how much effort you give them. There are enough hardships in officially run wine and beer judging comps, let alone the one you have gone into above.

  Perfection ... if there was such a thing. 6 hours from starting the burner, brew day was complete (including clean up).
  
  This was also my first no-chill experience, although there are no pictures showing any of that. I used two of the common, blue 7.5G Aquatainers from WalMart . I also used my SS/Teflon auto-siphon , which worked perfectly.

  I like the experimental wine and beer ideas. I hope you do some controlled experiments so I can emulate you without the Boo Boo's. Hybrid wine and beer drinks are going to be big someday and I hope we get on the bandwagon early! I have been fermenting with beer yeast and then adding wine yeast but never anything controlled.   Hello all! I'm pretty new to this, as I've only brewed a Brooklyn kit plus two 5 gal AG-BIAB batches so far (one of which is still in process).
  
  Firstly, I must say that I'm quite impressed how amiable the discussions are on here. I lurk pretty often, and this community has silently been very helpful to me. The BIABacus is amazing, and I am fully invested in learning as much as possible to utilize it to its fullest for my brewing hobby.

  Very well put! Your post above gives me hope that all newbie's have the insight to see that as you put it so wisely There are many ways to skin a cat . I have often stated that you can brew good beer by any method. Extract, 3V and BIAB. It depends on cleanliness and the skills of the brewer.

  PistolPatch was kind enough to look at my previous recipe , and settled my worries of the potential of self-sabotage. I'm a newbie, and I just don't have enough experience to get everything to jive the way I want it to. Perhaps once I start to see trends as I gain experience, it won't bug me so much.   I brewed the 2nd and 3rd batches back to back on Saturday, and absolutely nailed all of the numbers again. Confidence is high my friends, confidence is high. I made a hop substitution, and stuck to the original brew method . I don't think I care too much for what the Citra hops are contributing in the first batch (Amarillo and Simcoe are the other aroma hops). Everyone else loves the beer, but I feel like it can better suit my vision with a different hop combination.
