      This past weekend I decided to try a new wort chiller. I have had it for sometime now but had not trusted it :pray: . I had been using the copper tubing with a garden hose connected to it but that wasted so much water.
      
      This chiller you fill once and leave it. The new chiller does require about 25 thousand gallons of water to start with (my cement pond). :smoke: :drink: :cool:
      
      The red enamel pot is my second running I do off my primary batch - 21 litter and a 4 liter batch off the same grain....

   2. Bottle verses Keg conditioning - head retention

      I am seeing a big differnce in my batches depening on where i bottle or keg the beer. My beer always turn out carbonated but not always with head retention!
      
      I have been brewing for just a short while since Dec 2012 (I have done about 18 batches in that time). I have jumped straight into all grain BIAB single vessel process as my norm . I have been choosing to do a small batch out of the grains from my 5gl batch since I am not sarging. Doing a Second Running give me a session beer that I can...

      Another thing that I just noticed, maybe I'm reading it wrong, but isnt the OP is doing parti-gyle? Carbonation shouldn't be different, but head retention qualities might be very different between 1st & 2nd runnings? Also if I have read the parti-gyle right, it it always the same bottle/keg strategy ie 1st runnings batch always the bottled one?

   3. How often do you stir?

      I am new to brewing and have taken up with the BAIB process. I think I am getting the hang! but simple question:
      
      How much do you need to stir the mash?
      
      I think it sounds silly but my education has been seat of the pants and want to get an idea as to how ofte during the mash process do you need to stir the mash. I check mine every ten minutes or so and stir it for about 30 sec.. not trying to me uptight or anal here but figured I would ask. hope this is not as silly as it sound to ask. :?...

      Todd, I am Lazy, and still have a string tied to the Bottom center of the bag, and lift it up and drop it down, through a small Hole in the Lid, every 10-12 minutes.
      
      The Reflectix ( and a few beach towels keep it warm (+-3C), and the hot plate runs at low temperature to allow Ramp Mashing from 140F/60C to 158F/70C.
      
      The Potato masher was what I started with!!!!

   4. What does everyone use for insulation of the BIAB SV?

      I am curious what your thoughts are on how to insulate the pot while mashing.
      
      New to brewing (since 12.2012) but have done 14 batches already - 8 * 4L batches the rest 20l batches. :cool: I have had some very good batches so far...
      
      I am using the single vessel process and have devised something of an insulation process for my 40l pot. My blanket is made out of hot water heater blanket (fiberglass with a durable backing) doubled it over closed it up with what else .... drum roll... duck tape!...

      Sorry to hear about your hand lefty.
      
      I had a stupid attack early last year while going through a maiden run with my newly keggle setup. I drained very hot water into a plastic bucket, placed the silicone hose in there to rinse it, seconds later I reached in there to pick it up. It seems that the yard gloves I was wearing was not 'insulated'

   5. Second Runnings?

      Curious if anyone does a small batch ... out of second runnings?
      
      I am new to brewing and have been brewing all grain since I started 6 months ago. I am doing the BIAB SINGLE VESSEL for the last 3 batches (19L batches). But this last batch I took the grain and pulled it aside and once I was done with the primary batch I heated some water to try to get some second runnigs so to speak out of my spent grain.
      
      The pre boil SG was 1.43

      i have done it before and actually plan on doing it again this afternoon when i brew.
      It's works with BIG beers.
      My last brew was a 40L barley wine at an OG of 1.085
      i rinsed the spent grains and achieved a second beer with an OG of 30L at around 1.040
      all i do is remove my bag form the main kettle and into a bucket with a spigot at the bottom. i than add hot water and begin to run off and stop when i hit a gravity that look good. no actual calculation for the second beer. i'm just happy to get...
