      i've brewed a couple of cap (classic american pilsner) with 75/25 pale and polenta. most likely the most appraised beers i've ever made.
      dry, but still with a sweet aftertaste, asking for another sip.
      
      anyway.
      
      i hate cereal mashing and since i cannot get a hold of flaked mais or rice here in iceland, i've not bothered with that kind of beers but on special occations.
      
      in cereal mashing, u mix the adjunct and malt in 2:1 to 3:1, give it a sacc rest and then boil it. but why. the malt is to make...

      As it happens, at the last Brisbane Amateur Beer Brewers meeting I tried a Classic American Pilsner from a guy Nick Barnes (NickB on the Aussie home brewer forum) made with popcorn as an adjunct. It was great - clean, crisp and erm .... corny. He just uses his home hot air corn popper machine that's fairly cheap from the $2 stores here.
      
      Nick is a HERMS brewer but it would translate to BIAB perfectly. I've also used cornflakes but they contain a fair amount of salt which becomes noticeable if...

   2. adding pump for circulation and whirlpool

      i allready have a very good BIAB electric setup, but one always can improve.
      i've been thinking about adding circulation so i can do step mashes in the pot.
      
      the initial version would have a false bottom which the bag would sit on, about 8cm from the bottom. the pot is 37 cm in diameter. next step would be to create an inner mashing pot, which i could raise above the water surface and add water and sparge in it for a full boil.

      i have now some 6 BIAB's under the belt and i'm getting the funny feeling that mash temperatures are working differently than with my previous 3v system.
      
      i made an ordinary bitter 4 brews ago and had horrible time getting it to ferment out. ended in some 60% fermentation. i wanted full body and mashed at 69/70. my last two beers had similar problems. a stout that just plain stopped in 40% fermentation using 1084 yeast, and a blonde ale using 1007 german ale yeast stopped in some 45%...

      Who Me?, no not cold, just a couple real gentle transfers while still very hot for first few brews after I got larger pot. Old smaller pot just got tipped straight in. Think I'm sorted now. Hit expectd FG last brew....

      hi all,
      
      i'm planning my first BIAB brew tonight or tomorrow. i've brewed over 30 batches of all grain and several extract ones so i'm not stranger to brewing.
      
      that said, after having looked at the calculator supplied here, i have some questions.
      
      here is the recipe, equipment and method aside.
      
      Pilsner 93,00 %
      Carapils 4,00 %
      Caramunich II 2,00 %
      Caraaroma 1,00 %
      Northern Brewer Pellets (60 min) 33,5 IBU
      Goldings, US (20 min) 3,3 IBU
      Goldings, US (5 min) 1,6 IBU

      i heated up 32 liters.
      i'm not sure about the time it took, since i just set the controller to 72°C and prepared dinner.
      i guess it took some 20-30 minutes from 8°C.
      then i stirred the grain in and closed the lid for 5 minutes, to heat it up.
      stirred more until the temp was 67°C and then gave it 70 minutes.
      
      the heating element is 5.5kw and the boiler is pretty well insulated. at least compared to my old boiler it is much faster. most of my time, earlier, was spent waiting for it to boil.
