Made a new double voile bag today. Bridesmaid material. Much finer fabric than my old bag. Feels a bit less durable than the other. Think I will use the strong coarse bag inside the new finer bag. Total 3 layers. Should i lift them up together or take coarse bag out first, with most of the gr...
I have the hop bill covered. Actually liked a single malt munich bitter ale i made. Think that would be too malty for an ipa/apa. I like brewdog's punk but want just a little more maltyness. I know some guys got rave reviews for a dipa with 50/50 Munich and pils malt. Very unconventional. Not sure a...
Have pale ale malt, munich, caramel malt, pils and wheat malt at home. Will hop with chinook, centennial and cascade. Around 50-60 ibus. Abv around 5%. Want to be able to drink in front of telly without getting smashed Want 25 litres in the fv. I like a bit of maltyness. I know some say hoppy beers...
• In Australia the hangover cure of choice is Berocca, an over-the-counter tablet and nutritional supplement that delivers a big dose of B and C vitamins. Just plop one into a glass of water, and drink after it has been dissolved. Combine with a slice of Vegemite-covered toast and you will be ready...
Interesting to hear it went well. Will get ph strips. I am not going to add much more than a tea spoon of anything during my first try. I listened to that beersmith podcast that pp posted. It is featuring a grandmaster judge called Gordon Strong. He used phosphoric acid to get ph down of his water b...
Thanks pp. Will try listen to that pod cast tomorrow. Citric acid could be an option since I am planning to use a lot of cascadian citrus hops for next brew:grin: Agree with your basic assessment to keep additions to a minimum. Magnesium sounds like something that should not be exaggerared. Lactic a...
ÒPp, I would prefer ro water or distilled water but I don't have access to any affordable sources of neither distilled water nor ro water. I live on an island so I can't drive anywhere and get other water. My dealer does not have acidulated malt. He does however carry lactic acid. According to the t...
The calculator suggests boiling all water may help alkaline ion precipitation/reduce mash ph. True? Seems to make sense since boiling my water leaves some chalk like residue. Impressive that this calculator knows how much it will affect mash ph. Wonder how calculated? Boil first, cool then add the v...
Thanks. That calculator is useful. Will play around and post a profile. The dealer i buy from has something called ph 5.2 stabilizer. That stuff useful? Not sure what it will do for the final flavour? Not only ph important. Taste of the water also a biggie
Thanks guys, not sure where to get ro water. Everyone has potable tap water here. Not much of a market for ro water. Maybe easier to use something that binds the ions or acidic malt, some acid or such?
Thanks! Great articles under that link and great news for us preferring the easy biab process to 3v. Have pretty hard water. High alkalinity. So i do worry a bit about ph. The article on ph was a bit on the brief side. I normally do an acid rest while mashing. Thinking i may need to do more before f...
Try some wheat malt or some yeast that flocculates less if you want it more cloudy. I love hefe wheat beers I am also not so worried about clear beer. More worried about boiling husks for 90 minutes while using pilsner malts.
Better keep it under 170 not worth a little extra effeciency to dunk too hot. Do you dunk or simply mash with total needed water? Grain to liquid ratio matters?
Thanks guys, I get clear beer. I use cold crash and gelatin. Agree it is great. Was thinking about the wort before boiling. Is it ok to boil husks and all? Tannins etc? If I filter with cheese cloth or such before boiling I risk hot side aeration which some claim reduces the time the beer keeps fres...
Thanks! Yes I really should be making small batches but I got a 50 l pot and the grain is so cheap :) Same amount of work, just feels wastefull to brew small  I think I may be doing one mash and separate boils to get more varieties of beer. Steep some specialty grains add to one boil use diffe...
Hi all, Swedish guy here, hoping to improve my biab brewing skills. Just a few ag brews in but beer tastes great:-) Brewed a lot of kits when I was young. Now hooked on ag. Not sure how to find time to drink all the beer...
