      I haven't brewed in YEARS but I'm starting to get the urge again. I just wanted to issue a warning to all BIAB brewers. I am generally a fairly private person, so I don't usually share my life sob story, but hear me out please because I think hearing/reading it may prevent a lot of unnecessary suffering. I was diagnosed with M.S. in 2005 and had a couple very rough years initially. I had a massive relapse in 2007 which left me paralyzed on one side of my body. I have had suspicions...

      Great idea. I used some of the thoughts when I got my chest freezer. Just cut out a bunch of cardboard circles and brought them with me.

   3. DIY Volume markings inside your kettle.

      Found this thread on HBT with a tutorial on how to etch volume markings in your kettle. There is a minor risk that corrosion may occur on stainless steel after doing this, so consider that as a disclaimer. You should re-passivate after doing this to minimize the risk.

      Has anybody tried this? I like the idea but I'm also worried about bacteria or making it harder to clean than a shiny surface. I did it to two kettles. I have brewed ~5 times in one of them and see no ill effects. As JackRussel said, you need to re-passivate the stainless after etching. I think that's explained in the original HBT link. John Palmer also explains passivation in How to Brew. I cleaned thoroughly with Bar Keeper's Friend after etching.

      I was pretty excited to share this link, but then I saw that Beachbum has a pretty similar thread.
      
      Anyway, I thought I'd still share it because there are differences in the method and equipment. It's always nice to have choices.
      
      has good prices if you happen to be in the USA. They are still pretty good if you are in Canada, because I found that the only suppliers that carried everything were 4-5 times the price. in Canada has good prices if they have what you want/need.

   5. Netherworld Cascadian dark FAIL!

      I attempted to clone Netherworld Cascadian Dark from Flying Monkeys here in Canada and ended up with a delicious beer that is quite possibly better than the beer I was trying to re-create. It's kind of a cross between an APA and a Porter. Flavours of coffee and chocolate, with the punch of Cascade hop flavor and aroma. I do plan on upping the 0 min and dry hops in the future by 50% to start, but this is one of my best brews to date.

   6. Brewing Wheats with electricity

      I have been seeing a fair bit of scorched wort on my element when I brew Wheat beers. I'm just wondering if there is a way to cut this down. Would a protein rest help? If so, would decoction be the way to go?

      Can't say but my problem was using water from an ion exchange softener. I now brew exclusively with RO which I treat

      Well at least BIAB still fits. I stumbled on a site that is selling stainless mesh baskets for brewing. From hop spiders to full kettle baskets to mash in. Seems like a pretty good idea, but I'm curious what the BIAB Old Hands think.

   8. First AG and first BIAB under my belt!

      I brewed my first AG batch last night. All of the stress and apprehension I was feeling beforehand was completely unnecessary. It was just as easy as an extract batch with steeping grains, just a little longer with more lifting. The BIABAcus did a great job of taking the guess work out of Mash volumes and strike temp. If only I could get used to my Beersmith app reminding me to put my chiller in the kettle (when I've already put it in) and that it ISN'T time for my aroma hop addition :headhit:...

      Firstly, I would like to thank everyone involved in the creation of this site, and all that have contributed in developing the BIABAcus. I can only imagine the hours that were spent. I would have never made the step to AG without your hard work and willingness to share. :salute: :thumbs:
      
      I brew on an electric stove, have two pots (8.5 Gal & 5 Gal) and two bags. I have 2 small problems with my planned brew. Problem 1 is the BIABAcus says that my larger pot is too small to mash all the grains....

   10. Coming up to 6 weeks in fermenter!!!!!

       Hi all, I brewed 3 batches in mid to late December and all of them are still slowly bubbling away. The first batch was a fairly low (1.046) gravity extract batch that is aproaching 6 weeks in the fermenter. All 3 batches began fermenting nicely, I pitched before going to sleep and they were all going nicely when I woke up.
       
       I should mention that the postal service thought it would be a good idea for my extract and yeast to see more of this Country before its time here is over. So they sent it...

       Thanks for the replies everyone. I tasted it when I was bottling and I'm still alive. It just tasted flat, so I'm sure it will turn out fine.
