BIABrewer.info

No chill questions

I think I would like to try no chilling, but I suppose I would have to give up my auto siphon. And I should probably install a valve onto my kettle. That seems like the biggest hang up for me. Does anyone use a siphon for transferring hot wort?

That's just it. There was no original recipe. I started by thinking I wanted to do a smash, so I could learn how each ingredient effected the brew. Then I decided to make it closer to a Mild ale. I'm going to post it so I can see what's wrong.

should I set EOBV-A to 17.5 even if i am brewing 9.5l?
As a matter of fact I was fooling around just now and used 9.5 and my original hop bill moved to 22.5, which is much closer to the style.

I will try substituting the chocolate malt. I was mostly thinking of that for color
I don't want this to be too hoppy. That is why I was considering a hop burst ( 2.5 gal batch)

I think I've got it. Thanks to all.
So, biab is a full volume mash as opposed to J Palmer saying to mash 2 qt/lb and sparge with equal amt. How does each method make the wort different, or does it.

I am somewhat confused about the amount of water needed to brew. I have seen instructions that say to use maybe 2 quarts of water per pound of grain for the mash, and the Biabacus for instance has a column of VIK. I assume that is the amount for mashing.
