Rick.... yes I did mean 23L. sorry about that. :drink: what I think is somewhat funny is a Pliny the Elder does have Ammarilo hops. but this recipe does not (BTW: Drinking a Pliny as I type this :champ: ) Here is another site that has a recipe. This guy has been making this for sometime and says he ...

Mally, thanks for that recommendation. Rick, Yeah our numbers are little different. I used 63 L VIF as that is what Pistol has "recommended" for other recipes on the web. In this case though the recipe states batch size of 6 Gallons. 5 Gallons after hop loss. I played with the yeast attenuation as w...

Pliny the Elder

I am a fan of Pliny, please don't :shoot: me!!!!!, and would like to try making this clone that came from Vinnie himself. I just have a few issues that I cannot figure out in the BIABacus. Mainly...where does Corn sugar go? I am not sure if this is throwing off the ABV estimate and FG. Any thoughts ...

Bob, wow has this beer changed. The smokiness that I didn't like in the beginning has really subdued and really adds a nice flavor.

Robert

Hey PP thanks for the reply. Yeah I have been using 20.82 for EOBV-A which is a number I got from another one of your posts. I just found another post where you used 20.83. I think I'm close. :shoot: I will play around with the AA%'s to see what I can come up with. One other thing that seems to be b...

Here is a NB recipe I took as a test. Here is my problem. If I just change the VIP value to 3.79 L/1 Gallon, it does change the percentages for the grain bill, but not the hops. I believe it is unable to determine what the hops should be because I don't have the AA%'s from the original recipe. What ...

@hbgbill, according to the Northern Brewer recipe they are calling for Wyeast # 1272 American Ale II Yeast. MY LHB only carries White labs so I will have to find the equivelent. Still being new to brewing, especially when trying to stay within a specific style, should I be using the specs from the o...

Trout,

I lowered the OG from the original recipe to bring down the ABV. That is the reason the grain bill went down. I think I will just leave it as the original recipe has it and be done with it. My next brew with be a lower ABV IPA.

Converting recipes to 1 gallon

As I have only been brewing for about 1 year, I would like to start experimenting more. But with 1 gallon recipes. With the cost of shipping, purchasing the 1 gallon kits from NB just aren't worth it. So I am looking into converting a few recipes at a time and doing 1 gallon batches. I would really ...

IPA - Black IPA

Bottles this up tonight. Dry hopped 15 days ago. My first impression is it tastes great. Although I am not a huge fan of the smoke flavor which looking back at the recipe comes from the peated malt. If I make this again i would leave that out. My OG was 1.092. FG was 1.028 I cold crashed this for ab...

Why is it when you really want to try something the days get really long.  Please oh please let me try this beer soon.

Jamil's Red Ale

My next brew (while I wait for Bob's Black IPA to get ready) is going to be Jamil's Red Ale converted to a BIAB recipe. I have put the recipe into the new BIABacus but seem to be having some issues (which probably should be posted in a diff section) Here is the link to the original recipe: http://be...
