But I can't find a reset switch on my Buffalo! Think I might have to open it up.
Would that be Done from the inside ( it's a concealed element ) or from underneath?

Buffalo Boiler Breakdown

Well after a big disaster on my first BIAB, my Buffalo water boiler is not even turning on. Anyone give me any help in how to open it up so I can try to fix and why it might have cut out completely (I burnt my mash bag on the bottom of the boiler - even though it has a concealed element!)? Many than...

Oh dear. Well, I tried to do this brew over the weekend and what a disaster!! Firstly there was obviously a bit of a problem with my boiler because it kept cutting out even though it wasn't up to the 66 degrees for mashing. Then it suddenly surged, which led to me burning the bottom of the custombia...

Wow thank you so much for doing this! I will now get on and order my grain so that I can have a go. So, with this recipe as it is now set, I will end up with 19l to put in to the fermenting bin? If I decided to go to 23l do I change The brew length cell or the end of brew volume? Being my first brew...

Okay, so I have been having a play with the Beer Calculator. Think I've got my head round it. Is it okay to post my file here for someone to have a look at to see if I got it right?

Bob
How did that work out? Did you just educated guess your quantities?

One note of caution: I used the BIABrewer calculator and Beersmith; both gave me an initial volume of about 43 litres. However my evaporation rate was a lot less than those allowed for and I ended up 10 litres over! (I boiled in a 60 litre bucket with one 2.2KW element running.) Bob Hmm yes this is...

Okay so now I need to start looking at calculating my ingredients. Can someone recommend a good beer calculator for th mac, preferably free? And how do I go about working out how many litres of water I will need to start with to end up with a 23litre brew? I realise these are newbie questions but we...

Many thanks guys. Ironically, two minutes (possibly less) after sending that post last night an email popped in to my inbox last night. So I am now one step further to BIAB!! Once the bag arrives, then I will just need to work out the quantities for my first brew!!

Fab, many thanks Yeasty! Yes, I have access to Excel through Apple Numbers and I also have Excel 2011 installed on my Mac too so I can use that if necessary!! It is a bit of a pain having to wait but I have enough extract left to brew 1 last batch before I move to BIAB... Just one more newbie questi...

Well I received my bargain Buffalo boiler (which is now destined to be a Christmas present! ), so will have to wait a while to do my first BIAB brew in it! I must admit I think I've got a bit of a bargain. There is one tiny dent in the body of the boiler and some minimal limescale to scrub out...

No haven't explored the world of calculators yet!! Will have a search around and see if someone already done it!

I have Mac computers and not sure that there is any software to run on it?

Been using Graham Wheeler's bible to brew with extract for last 18 months or so and my favourite brew so far was Timothy Taylor Landlord. Can I just use his recipes in BIAB or will I need to adjust amounts of malt due to efficiency? If so, I will probably do a SMaSH with Fuggles and have a play arou...

Went and made an offer on the 40litre buffalo boiler and managed to bag it for £60! BIAB here I come...

Now which brew to go for first??

Many thanks for your replies and advice. So, just one more newbie question I promise. Would a water boiler like the 40l Buffalo be preferable to the Electrim Masher and Boiler from here: http://www.art-of-brewing.co.uk/acatalog/AoB_OnLine_Catalogue_Beer_Mashing_Equipment_________18.html Just want to...

Water boiler for BIAB

New to forum so here is first newbie question! How well would one of these work for biab: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-ACE-25ltr-Water-Boiler-Beer-Boiler-Wine-Brewing-distilling-Wax-etc-etc-/220891641907?pt=UK_BOI_Restaurant_RL&hash=item336e2af833#ht_4471wt_992 Would I be able to make up 23l batche...
