Hey PP,
Slightly off topic and maybe a silly question...
But what should it taste like??
I washed the yeast from my last brew and want to make sure it's OK before I pitch it again.

Hey Dicko,
Have you tried bottling a few out of a batch?
If the bottled ones have good head, then you could rule out your glasses and brewing procedure to focus on the keg carbing.

Hi Hefe, Yep, sounds like your evap rate is higher than the standard figure in the calculator. Which is obviously dependant a lot on your heat source. Something you can just adjust once you get a few brews under your belt. Your post boil gravity might be a bit higher than expected...not necessarily ...

Hi Adman, Awesome topic...brewing while listening to music combines two of my favourite things!! Pink Floyd is a common choice for me too, but recently I have moved to Flaming Lips cover of Dark Side Of The Moon. It's a great tribute to an awesome album, and you can just let it play all the way thro...

Sanity check please...same pre-boil vs. post-boil gravity

Hi all, After 6 or 7 BIAB brews, I lashed out and brought a shiny new 40L Birko urn. Cranked it up for the first time for an APA last weekend...target OG 1.054. Everything went well and after a 90min mash(66c + 70c mashout), I hit pre-boil gravity of 1.050. At this stage I thought I was bang on to h...

Hi Adrian, Three in a row...every brewers worst nightmare :? !! There should be no problem storing your cubes for that period of time if your processes are sound. I'd probably chuck the cubes out and get some fresh ones. If you give some details on here of your cleaning/cubing process, I'm sure you ...

Increasing sweetness to balance bitterness - help please

Hi fellow brewers, Was looking for some advice for improvements to the following brew... Maxi-BIAB APA Grain Bill (5900g) 4800g (76%) Simpsons Ale - Maris Otter 1000g (17%) JWM Light Munich 300g (5%) Weyermann Carahell 100g (2%) JWM Malted Wheat Mash in at 65C for 90 mins. 2 x dunk sparge (progressi...

Perlick 525SS...great tap. Got mine imported from the US for around $55 including postage. Did $55 include the shank as well or just the tap head? Didn't include the shank...you are probably looking at around $20 for a 4" SS shank. Just checked my ebay records...the tap itself was $42.57 (+ $12.93 ...

Hi Roger, in my opinion you are better off keeping it out of the fridge if you can. Condensation and moisture in the fridge can potentially damage your regulator. Cheers, Jake.

Thanks for a great post Hashie!! You mean I don't need to take 3 pages of notes on brewday :o ? I only have a few BIABs under my belt, so it's a bit early for me to throw away the numerical training wheels!! Yeast cell calculations and pitching rates...that's what's doing my head in right now :scrat...

Thanks heaps PP and Stux.
You calculated my evap rate spot on - 3.6L/hour is what I've been getting.
Picking up the grain this morning, looking forward to a fun day of brewing ahead  .
Cheers,
Jake.

Maxi-BIAB recipe help

Hi all, After doing a couple of mini-BIABs I want to have a crack at a maxi-BIAB to get me up around 20L brew length. 10L wort seem like a lot of work for not much drinking :drink: !! NRB's All Amarillo APA from here... http://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14 I've plugged all the numbers in...

Hmmm...a 2 hour fight with the BIABacus...I'm sure beer will be the winner in the end  ! Thanks for the recipe Todd, the colour looks brilliant :yum: ! Will definately consider it for my next brew, but as PP mentioned, already picked up the grain. Finally got the brew on yesterday with the redu...

Thanks Hippy, great info!
I picked up some of the large type from Chef's Hat in Sth Melbourne really cheap if anyone in Melbourne is looking for them. Might head back for some smaller ones too.

Hey PP...wow, sounds like I hit the jackpot for vague recipes!! I've done a fair bit of reading lately after moving from extract to BIAB. On the positive side, the ambiguity of this recipe probably forced me to look into stuff that I may not have otherwise at this stage of my brewing career :peace: ...
