      I've been looking for a large, variable temperature vessel that can handle somewhere between a 3-5 gallon BIAB session. However it appears that US consumers are not too keen on electric urns as they are referred to by most non-US brewers. Do any of you other US brewers have one, and if so where did you buy it (preferrably in the US so I don't pay really high shipping charges)?

      Beer update #2: Still aging in the carboy, it smells wonderful so I decided not to muck it up by adding fruit or oak. I'll bottle it at its first birthday in a couple of weeks.

      This weekend I'll be doing my 4th AG via BIAB. The past three have all turned out very good by taste, though I've had some issues with carbonation (Brown Ale was overcarbonated but excellent taste, red ale was under carbonated but excellent taste, agave wheat is perfectly carbonated and pretty tasty). I like the experiment, so while using DME or corn sugar for carbonation has worked fine, I wanted to get a handle on fun things like maple syrup and krausening (and eventually honey, agave, and...

      Tried my first BIAB last night. The recipe was a brown ale recipe that I tweaked to bring into the robust porter range:
      
      8.65lbs 2 Row base
      1.3lbs CaraPils
      1.25lbs Crystal 40L
      0.6lbs Chocolate
      0.5lbs Flaked Barley
      
      1oz Norther Brewer 60min
      1oz Cascade 30min
      0.5oz Cascade 10min
      0.5oz Cascade 0min

      Not sure if I am higher or lower than you outbreak - might have to get the rulers out :). When I walk from the pub on the river bank (also at sea-level) back to home (the top of the river bank) it sometimes feels like 200 m :roll:.

      Is math/numbers a human construct?

      I'm just curious for those of you out there who have a few awards under their belt, have you ever considered opening a BrewPub or microbrew? I was reading a few articles about it the other day, and estimated profit margins in 2008 were 50%. However, breaking into the distribution teamster circle is supposidly rather difficult.       I can only dream that I have a knack for anything ;) As far as the long hours and not much money, it doesn't sound too different from what I am normally accustomed to.       Thanks for the tip hashie. I think I will hold back to 45 on the hops. I'll consider the carared too. Do you think I should use it in place of the barley? I was hoping the barley would add just a hint of complexity along with some deeper color tones, but that was sort of a wild guess on my part (and trying to stick with grains harvested in the US :)).
      
      If you do use a foreign grain, I'd use the caraaroma to replace the barley.

      Just go see it. IMO Christopher Nolan's best film yet. You have to admit, the guy is talented considering he writes or co-writes the screen plays for his movies and also directs them. He even has a fair number of producing credits.
      
      On the beer drinking front, this movie will make excellent drinking discussion.
