      This recipe comes courtesy of Kal Warner, a well respected Canadian Brewer. A friend and I have both brewed it and it's fantastic. Highly recommended if you like a citrusy but well balanced pale ale.

      I used The Calculator to scale it to suit my equipment and it worked flawlessly. I should add that I substituted Pilsner malt for 2-row pale without any issues.

   2. Partigyle & BIAB

      I am a big fan of Fullers ESB and have brewed one clone using BIAB which turned out quite well. But I was doing some more research and stumbled across some episodes of the Jamil show where they tried to clone the beer. The first wasn't successful, but on the second they believe they nailed it.       The details of how they did start at 49:30 mark and it only takes a few minutes to get through it.
      
      They are effectively doing a double 6G batches for 12G. 95% pale malt, 5% british crystal 70-80. 8 gallons for starting mash, 1.3 quarts per pound. First runnings for the ESB were 5.5 gallons with gravity of 1.063. Diluted with a gallon of water to get 7 gallon pre-boil. Ended up with an OG of 1.060.
      
      Second runnings produced the London Pride wort of 1.038 @ 7 gallons, and after the boil they had...

   3. First BIAB Experience

      I had my first BIAB session last night. It was good! There were many things done right, some things done wrong, and hopefully sometime in the future I'll have a beer that will be drinkable. Here's the intro synopsis:
      
      Recipe: Lloydie P's Krispy Kolsch
      Volume into fermenter: 20.79L (~5.5G)
      Bag: Did not have one so went with the big square approach :)
      Kettle: 48L aluminum, 40cm diameter
      Fuel Source: 72,000 BTU propane burner

      Keep up the good work! Your brewing skills are skyrocketing! Your evap rates will rarely be perfect unless your humidity is always the same. My humidity changes each day in the summer. One day everything is sopping wet and the next it is crisp and clear. Winter is the only time it is stable. Great for lagers! As summer is winding down here I am actually looking forward to brewing lagers.

   5. Efficiency and Boil Gravity

      I have a question about the point in time that the gravity reading is done to calculate efficiency that I'm hoping someone can help me with.
      
      From what I have read it appears as though efficiency should be calculated using the Boil Gravity (ie, the gravity of the wort just as it reaches a boil). The reasoning in Palmer's How to Brew is, we want to think in terms of the boil gravity because that volume of wort and its gravity is our actual yield .
      
      It's not clear to me why it has to be boiled...

      it is a great improvement to the traditional refrac correction for alcohol formula.

      I picked the gear up today. I'm used to stainless steel and in comparison this pot feels like a pop can. It is very light and thin, but the price was right ;) I was also surprised at the size.. I was expecting it to be taller but it is very wide.
      
      The burner looks solid. Now I just need to get a few propane tanks, some swiss voile, some grain and I should be good to go.
