Well, I gave it a go as instructed above, but the results where not brilliant. Although I finally got more clearer beer in to my fermenter (19ltrs), from my cube, which was a very good result for me. Will try again during my next brew. Thanks for all the above advice.

Thanks for that - very good advice. I'll give it a try tomorrow when I do another brew. I have been whirlpooling with a spoon but have not been leaving the hot wort for anything like 20 mins. I have also not be syphoning, i have been using the tap on my urn. I'll try the syphoning approach as well. ...

Whirlpool

Got a good few BIAB's completed. At the end of the boil I always have trouble getting clear wort in to the cube. I NO chill. I have tried various ways using my large spoon to rotate the wort and create a good whirlpool but always seem to extract hot break and other undesirables in to the cube. Could...

PP, Thanks for yours. Efficiency should read 70%. Looking at my notes - Vol at end of boil was 28 ltrs, 21 ltrs in to the cube. Intentionally lost 7 ltrs from end of boil in to the cube. There was a huge amount of trub, but not 7 ltrs worth, maybe 3.5 ltrs worth. After no chill, I managed to get abo...

Thanks for your response.

Mash was at 66 deg C.

I am going to make it again and will try to mash with a higher temp. I did mash out at 78 deg C and steeped the Caraamber for 30 mins.

I have just splashed out and bought a new BIAB bag. Now I have one for grain and one for hops. I'm going to use the "old" bag for hops and the new one for grain. All is well in the world!

Did you ever check your Refractometer against your hydrometer?

I have just done it and find that the Refractometer is apparently reading about 8 gravity points high, when compared to 3 of my existing hydrometers.

Yes I did calibrate with distilled water. Very strange!

I certainly have no problem with boil vigor. My Urn lid has a serries of small holes about it's periphery which allows for a generous escape of steam, coupled with the fact when boiling I use the bag as the hop recipticle the lid does not fit completely. So I manage to maintain a vigorous boil and e...

PP,
Thank you for your response and Happy New Year to you.
I presume batch size as depicted in Brewmate is volume amount in to the fermenter not actual volume in to keg? That is the premis I have been using.
Any idea when BIABacus will be on general release?

Software Variety.

I did a brew today and used "The Calculator", Brewmate and Ian H's designer. I was quite amased as the volumes came out pretty much "cock" on over the 3 different softwares, the gravity was correct and the brew length although calculated in different ways came out pretty much "cock" on too, over the...

Interesting thread. I use my grain bag as a hop bag. Seems to work OK, but then maybe I should do a brew just throwingvthevhops in withoutvavag and see if there is a discernible difference. Does anyone think there would be?
