      All,
      Had nothing better to do so I though that I'll do a botteling and pitching-from-cube pictorial . :interesting: :roll:

      Botteling
      1. Bottles washed and on the bottle tree. I normally rinse my bottles immediately after pouring a beer. On botteling day I just rinse the bottels with warm water and then rinse them with Iodiophor or Starsan. After that, onto the botteling tree. If I get bottles from other people I would soak them in a cleaner...

      Hey hey! So the wife bought me a Party Star Deluxe Tap for my birthday! I used it to tap my black IPA that was sitting in my mini-keg (check the black ipa thread to see the amazing recipe).... I can not even describe how incredible my beer tasted on tap. I don't know if it's the cask conditioning that the 5l keg does, or if it's the beer being dispensed with co2, or both, but it was amazing. I was drinking it right next to Stone, Bruery, Bootleggers, and Sam Adams beers and preferred it over...

      I've recently found this site on the interwebby thing. It's a number of recipes by Jamil Zainasheff (listed with his permission) and most of them include a discussion that can be downloaded. The information in the recipes are comprehensive and easily converted using BIABacus.

      I wonder if a another guy called Cracker would be considered, to throw in humour. :salute: I like that idea. I can think of a few guys that could run it too! Good Day, Hints is a charater so someone Like PP can write Simple Answer to Questions, Instead is pages of Solutions and questions, and conclusions about things that we have answered years ago, but, forgot the Topic!! :shoot:

      Citra hops seems to be in short supply at most well known online brewstores - I just found some at a store in Edinburgh. Price is not too bad and they do ship.

      I think I have got a direct debit set up with Rob at Maltmiller. He has got very good prices, a huge variety and great customer service, and I get most of my brewing stuff from him. Most LHBS and OHBS in the UK ran out of the popular American hops during Nov/Dec and I posted the above link since I know they had some in stock-and he is my most local HBS (20 miles away).

      I've been in bed for basically the past 2 weeks with the nastiest flu/influenza/bug known to man. The good news is that I'm feeling a lot better today and I believe that it is all because of BobBrews Hop Vodka Hot Toddie that I made last night. I slept and sweat like a hot baby last night. Awesome stuff. I'm going to repeat the dose tonight and I hope that it will kill the last bits of the bug.
      
      Recipe:
      - Juice of 1 lemon
      - Big dollop of honey

      I have tried drinking and that seems to make problems worse? Possibly I could try NOT drinking and maybe my problems would clear up?? Naw! If your a true home-brewer you have to make a choice and beer is my friend for better or for worse! It might be worth a try though???
      
      P.S. I sobered up once! It's not that great as they make it out to be. I had a headache the whole time? I don't know how those non drinkers can walk around with a splitting headache all day long??? Give me...

      So, got a fridge from the office and decided its perfect for conditioning beer, store my yeast & yeast slants and keep my leftover hops in. After cleaning it out I plugged it in and loaded it with 10L of lager and the other stuff. Temperature setting on 2 (1 being warm and 8 being cold). Opened the fridge yesterday to be confronted by a 10L bucket of beer frozen solid and some frozen yeast slants/wash yeast bottles.
      I'm accepting the loss of the yeast as payment for my stupidity of not using...

      Things I've been wondering about for quite some time (well, couple of minutes really....)
      
      1. Why, when you measure gravity, does a hydrometer ALWAYS stop spinning with the numbers pointing away from you? And why does it keep on turning away from you if you if you turn the jar? My daughter walked into the kitchen earlier this evening, asking me why my head was behind the measuring jar, wedged underneath the wall mounted cupboard, banging against the toaster and with half my body on the kitchen...

      I've found that the best beer in a keg is normally the one just before it blows. I suspect this is caused by additional C02 scrubbing, ageing/lagering and yeast flocculation
      
      Yes, them damn tubes... they always spin away from you... I generally just give the hydro a small tap and a tiny twist

      After a run of 16 very nice brews I ran into the first situation where I had to dump 60 litres (3 batches) of beer down the drain. It hurts.
      I think its all down to my new equipment and specifically to the fact that I'm not getting a decent rolling boil. Both the brews were done on a recently purchased 70L stainless steel pot (45cm x 45cm) and a 8.8kW gas ring . I've done the 3 failed brews and after that, 2 test run boils, on the setup but I cannot seem to get a rolling boil going. Some...

   9. Best time/temp to cube

      I've been using NC cubes for my last 5 brews and something has always bothered me. At what stage do you start the transfer of the hot wort to the cube? I've always done it as soon as possible after flameout (within 5-10 minutes) which means that I'm getting a lot of break material into the cube. I'm scared that if I leave the wort for too long (wirlpool or waiting for break material to settle) then it will not be hot enough to sanitise the cube.

   10. Continuous boil in urn

       Hi All
       I've recently got hold of the 20L (5.2 US gallons?) office urn and I've used it for my last 2 brews. I've previously used a 15L stock pot (on the gas stove top) that I've used to make Mini-Maxi :scratch: BIAB's. My normal into fermenter volume is between 9L and 15L. The urn is not a huge step up but it does give me a bit more room to work with and seeing that I got it for free....
       
       I've modified the urn (bypass the temperature cut-off and dry boil) and I'm able to get a continuous boil...

       Good on you Lambert, if you intend to do doubles, at any time in the future, then 70l is the way to go.
       
       By the way, I use a 4 ring burner. It raises the temp by ~1°C per minute and maintains a rolling boil with the 2nd and 3rd burners on a standard batch (37 litre starting volume).

       Hi all,
       I've just spend the whole of Saturday morning driving around looking at suitable second hand fridges/freezers - no joy :nup:. I want to brew my first lager and I'll need (want :)) a fridge for brewing and lagering. I wanted a freezer, my thinking being that it will be easier to maintain the 3-7 week lagering temps in a freezer (around 2deg C? :scratch:) than in a fridge. Unfortunately I won't have space for 2 units so the freezer will have to serve as a fermentation and conditioning...

       Last night I made all the preparations to pitch the yeast to my no-chilled Belgian Ale. The original recipe called for a Belgian yeast and I decided on Wyeast Belgian Strong 1388 (Duffel yeast I believe).        Hi all
       After my first mini BIAB I had some grains and hops left. I really enjoyed the first BIAB and had just had to do another brew. I've made a small mistake in ordering the grains for my first brew - instead of ordering pale wheat malt I've ordered roasted wheat malt. The details of that recipe is on the forum - .        Regardless - I've created another brew loosely based on the recipe in that posting but with the following grain bill:

   14. Boil length & adding hops

       Hi all
       I've seen some recipes that calls for wort to be boiled for only 60 minutes and with the first hop additions also at start of boil. If I want to recreated these recipes, do I also boil for 60 mins? The BIAB norm seems to be 90 mins. If it's ok/desirable/good to boil for 90 mins instead of 60 do I then maintain the hops additions as per the original recipe or do I somehow need to convert it to suit the increased boil time?
