      Learning quite a bit from my first BIAB, I was confident this second time around. I made a whole lot less mess, I stressed a whole lot less too. I was too cocky for my own good...
      
      Somehow I got a 1.047 gravity when I was shooting for a 1.074. This was a 10.5 pound (4.76 KG) grain bill in a 3.5 gallon batch. I did Maxi-BIAB style again this time around on my stove, using my little 5 gallon aluminum kettle.

      Well, it sounds worse than it is. I totally misread my excel spreadsheet on brew day and thought that I didn't have to add my sparge to my wort. I got around 2 gallons instead of my 3.5 goal. At least the wort was way over the top of the target gravity. I ended up adding a half gallon of distilled water to the wort to try and thin it out a little bit. Oh well, lesson learned, trust the spreadsheet!

      My first brew the dogs ripped the bag out of the esky and the grain went into the mash but the lid came off the esky and by the time I found it was down to 60c lol went ahead and strained grain threw another bag it fermented out heaps but I got beer.
      
      I never sanitise my tap when transferring to keg I do clean it and some times spray it with star san if there is some mixed other wise dont bother. I do alot of things that people may think is stupid like to airate the wort I pull spoon out of...

   3. Half Batches of Big Beer

      Simple question: Can I brew half batches of big beers , say with a grain bill of 10-12 lbs of grain, in my 5 gallon (19 liters) kettle using the MaxiBIAB method? By half batches , I mean between 2.5 and 3.5 gallons (9.5 and 13.25 liters) after the boil.

      I think the limiting factor is the liquor:grain ratio you can achieve during the mash
      
      As long as you are above 2.5 L/KG, you shouLd be okay, and 3 will be fine.
