Recipe review requested

Attached is a recipe I pulled from the Mar/Apr Zymurgy magazine for an "India Dark Double Black IPA". Previous forums have spoken to recipe integrity and when specifics aren't given as to VAW or VIP, only 5.5 gallon batch size, I can't compute how they arrive at their OG, etc. I post it for review, ...

Adding sugars to a recipe

My last brew required 1 pound of dark candi sugar to be added 15 min. prior to flame out. I am confused as to where to input this in Biabacus and am getting ready for the next brew which calls for the addition of honey at flame out. I have acquired a new kettle and plan on the attached recipe (Ragin...

Re: 1st Brew result

Thanks Pete. I got the measurement down, just screwed up on the gravity measurements because of not cooling adequately before measuring. Got in a hurry as I was doing a lot more measuring and recording then in prior extract/kit brews. Will do it right next time. Had a picture of the first pint that ...

1st Brew result

Brewed NRB's All Amarillo on 1/3, kegged on 1/16 and pulled the first pint today. As noted in an earlier post, I'm not confident on my pre-boil and post boil gravity measurements, but it's drinkable with good aroma. It's still settling out after adding gelatin yesterday & not fully carb'd. Planning ...

Re: 1st BIAB experience

Cart materials are from 80/20 Inc in Columbia City, IN. It's 1515-Lite t-slot aluminum extrusion, cut to my specs, counterbored for anchor fasteners connecting the legs & crossmembers, with legs tapped for threaded casters. Strong technical support from them while designing, good customer service & ...

1st BIAB experience

I brewed NRB's All Amarillo on 1/3/17.  Overall the experience was positive, although there's room for improvement.  I hit my volume targets   but missed the gravity estimates  , although there's an issue with the temperature I took the measurements at, which I will correct on the next br...

Re: Water measurement

I understand from the responses I recd re. kettle headspace how to utilize BIABacus to gauge my TWN when filling the kettle.  I have been fermenting my extract brews in a conical and although there are internal etchings in it, they are at the gallon & half gallon levels.  I'd like to hear how others...

Re: Water measurement

MS - I have tried to locate addl info regarding how to use Sections T & V, but haven't been successful.  Can you point me in that direction?  It looks like your kettle is new.  I've got one of Ben's original generation kettles & have communicated with him regarding electric if BIAB works out for me....

Water measurement

Soon I will be doing my first BIAB after tweaking the All Amarillo recipe with BIABacus to fit my kettle.  I have a kettle with a sight gauge and "calibrated" it after first getting the kettle two years ago and found the sight gauge measurements to be off from the measured qts/gal that I added to th...

Re: My First Post! - Post here to become Fully Registered

Mad Scientist:  Thanks for your reply.  Since I'm switching from extract brewing a lot of this stuff is a first time for me.  Re. ckg the grain temp, are you using the same thermometer that you use for gauging the mash temp & merely sticking the probe into the middle of the grain prior to adding it ...
