      I left Liverpool when I was 8 years old, so my pub knowledge isn't that good.
      There is a Brewdog in Liverpool though (Manolis Yard, 8 Colquit Street, Liverpool, L1 4DE).
      Expensive but good quality.

   2. storing no-chill cubes

      question to all you no-chillers:
      how do you store your fermented wort?
      I mean, what temperature is acceptable for storing wort in a no chill cube?
      as summer is approaching the temps around here are moving toward the 30's and even in my celler i'm expecting at least 28-29C in July.

      I couldn't find the thread where we were discussing the colour difference in the pic above but I just pitched a Kolsch that I brewed exactly a year ago and it is dark as well. In fact, the colour difference would be about the same as in Bob's pic. I've never noticed it before even with lagers but this kolsch colour really stood out. I'll see if it is as noticeable after fermenting. A few guys here had the other half of this kolsch which was pitched straight away and they will remember that the...

      Hey guys,
      Sorry to have been outta touch for so long. been busy.
      So anyway, i recently won the local Carlsberg Challenge . not a brewing contest but more a beer knowledge contest (paring food with beer, blind tasting to identify style and that sort of thing).
      800 people went online and took the quiz, 40 advanced to the second round, 10 to the finals and I won!
      so, they're sending me to London for 4 days to attend a course at the London Beer Academy

      +2 on the thread tape. These adaptors leak without it. I went through a full cylinder before working out that it was leaking. Since ive been taping the thread on the cylinders ive had no issues

      now i realize that i might get virtually stoned (or actually get a rock thrown through my window all the way from Australia to Israel) because this recipe does not conform to forum standards at all but i'll put this out there anyway,

      i am planning on adding kettle hops. noble hops like Perle or Hallertauer.
      i usually do sugar additions in the fermenter, at least for Belgians. i does help to dry them out.

      so a group of us got together and bought a used reconditioned wine barrel (225L).
      we each brewed the same recipe - Robust Porter, and got together last night for the barrel filling. what an excitement!.
      the recipe:

      My friend Ron recently completed his new electric BIAB setup and already brewed two batches on it.
      Take a look guys:

      it all started when a friend gave me a 100 liter aluminium pot. i wired in two 2000W elements, with a digital PID controller.
      I added a magnetic washing machine pump (new), that takes the liquid from the bottom of the put and returns it from a side port located above the grain level. also added is a tap and a sight glass.

      I know this is an old post but if you still frequent this forum I have a couple of questions
      I have a 100 litre pot and a 70 litre pot .I plan to convert one of them to a BIAB recirculating setup like this one
      my questions
      1) what is your minimum brew size(I see lines marked that i assume are final brew sizes)
      2) does 4000 watts raise and boil your maximum liqor size ok
      3) are both the elements controlled by the pid or is one run direct and just switched by the control box on/off switch

       i finally got my hands on some rye malt (which has never been available here). but it not milled and i don't have a grain mill. i always buy my grain milled but now i have to find a way to grind up a few hundred grams of rye.
       any ideas?

       is this infected?
       dealing with sours and wild fermentation has made me a bit unsure when encountering what i think to be an actual infection.
       
       this is a set of pics of a 3 way side by side saison. i had ECY08, WLP568 and Fermentis T58. the question is regarding the T58. the pics were taken after two weeks of fermentation starting at 18C, raised to 26C and than crashed.
       
       it looks like a pelicle has formed on the beer (the other two looked clear when i peaked in.
       
       i bottled the T58 beer. today...

       I occasionally fill a keg with some cleaning solution and run it through the lines. I leave it hooked up for a day and put a warning on the tap not to use it. I think that the tap-line cleaning solution in the line for a day cleans it well enough. I flush with some water (sometimes I let water stay in the line for a while also?) and hook up some beer! It seems to keep any off flavors out of the lines? Of course with my lack of taste buds what do I know?

       Hey all,
       We had our annual Brew Party here three weeks ago. I usually take the opportunity to team up with people i don't brew with regularly and also to brew something out of the ordinary (last year is was a Flanders Red Ale).
       This year we brewed a Classic American Pilsner with popcorn.

       I love thinking outside the box when it comes to brewing and this is something that I have never thought about before but it seems like a fantastic idea. It is a shame that I have only just recently given my hot air popcorn machine to my ex-wife :-(

   16. two beers one brew

       here's an experiment that turned out to be two outstanding beers.
       i brewed 40L of one wort, split it into two cubes and fermented with a few variations.
       one beer is a Belgian Strong Ale and the other a HellerBock Lager (Maibock).
       
       the Bock was a huge hit at our Israeli Independence Day party last night. i downed 4 pints and got a very nice buzz ;)
       
       Belgian Strong / Maibock (brewed Feb. 2 2012)
       
       Original Gravity (OG): 1.059 / 1.069
       Final Gravity (FG): 1.011
       Alcohol (ABV): 6.10 % / 7.5-%...

       I recently participated in an awesome experiment.
       One of my homebrew club members went pro last year and opened a nano brewery. He brews on a Braumeister 200L filling 9 240L Speidel fermenters.
       Anyway, we had 12 homebrewers get together, he brewed 200L of a relatively simple beer.
       We than split the wort into 12 buckets and each brewers pitched a different Ale yeast strain.
       the following yeast was used:
       WLP-565 White Labs
       Nottingham Lallemand
       Gold Muntons
       WLP-004 White Labs
       EC-1118 Lalvin...

       most recipes call for a very short boil or non at all.
       can i boil for 15 minutes and than no-chill in my cube? will this not cause DMS or other problems?

       I've been BIABing for almost two years now. I'm on my second kettle:

       I just added a pump for recirculating the wort during the mash. the idea is that recirculating the mash can allow for electronic temp control using a PID controller while keeping the temp even throughout the mash.
       so far i have only installed the pump. i brewed with it on Friday. all went fine except that for the first time ever did my bag get scorched by the heating element!

   21. harvesting yeast from bottom of keg

       i brewed a Belgian style beer about two month ago. unfortunately i did not harvest and keep any yeast after fermentation and liquid yeast is very hard to come by around here.
       the beer was kegged and kept refrigerated since.
       
       do you think i can harvest the dregs at the bottom of the keg and grow them up on a stir plate?

       This is a really interesting and original topic shib :peace:. I have never seen it posted anywhere before so good on you :thumbs:.
       
       I can see a lot of advantages to this for several brewers. For example, there might be some beers you like to brew but drink very slowly over 6 to 12 months. These brews might have required an expensive liquid yeast. Maintaining a yeast for this length of time with other methods is a PITA. Building it up from the remains of your keg is really worth investigating....

       Hi guys,
       I've been getting various efficiencies when BIABing. I've done 5 brews so far and the calculated efficiency have been anywhere between 72% to 89%.
       I understand that it has much to do with the milling.
       I buy my grains milled, so i have minimal control over that.
       
       what have you guys been getting?
       
       Also, i have heard/read that efficiency over 80%-85% is not a good thing, as you may be extracting tannins from the husks. Is this true for BIAB too?

       question about bottling beer out of a keg:
       
       if i have beer that has been force carbonated in a corny, and than filled from that corny into bottles,
       and if the beer was over carbonated in the keg, would that cause gushing beer when opening the bottles?

       We just had the final ceremony of the Israel branch of the Samuel Adams Longshot home-brewers competition.
       none of my beers placed :nup: .
       but that's not the point of this post.
       the contestants had a chance to serve their beer to the public and get some real feed back from the man on the street .
       so i had to find a way to serve my kegged beer cold.
       i was too cheap to buy or build a jockybox. so i opted for a method that would allow me to keep the cold kegs insulated and cold for a whole...

       it certainly did. added a bag of ice cubes at the start and than a bit more a few hours later. after six hours there were still ice cubes in the barrel.
