BIABrewer.info

The beer tastes very similar to Newcastle...with some subtle flavor flaws. Also it was very cloudy and had more body than the newcastle commercial version. Overall I am very pleased with my first BIAB experience. I'm going to try a Munich Dunkel next at 1.5 gallons.

I use a cfc first to cool it down and recirculate back into my kettle because I remember readin jamil z say that the problem with cfc's is thAt your cooling down the wort as a whole alot slower. Good idea I will try that on my next batch. Do you need to heat the oven the entire mash time or does it hold the temp well enough if you get it up to your mash temp and turn it off?

carbonator cap question

I have recently come across the carbonator cap for carbonating plastic bottles. Does anyone know if these fit on the tap a draft bottles. I believe they are 6 liter bottles but the opening is slightly larger than a standard two liter bottle. I did some google searching but found only answers saying ...

I thought I read somewhere that the sensors on the Johnson controllers aren't waterproof. So when you need to rais the temp, do you have a fish tank water heater in the water or how do you heat the water?

I have always used a temp controller (I think mine is made by Johnson controllers). Anyway I have always just taped my sensor to the side of the carboy and it seems to read pretty accurate to the fermentation temps as long as I wrap it with a blanket to prevent it from readin the ambien air. I use a cheap aluminum pot since I am doing a small batch (it holds about four gallons of water)...because I already had that lying around the house.
